    Is a buzzer like this one
    [IMG]
    In not sure where is located in super slim motherboards (easy or hard to access to it... i dunno)

    But the idea that came to mind... is you can make an small ball of cotton, and put it inside the hole of the buzzer, this way the sound level is reduced
    The most you press the cotton ball inside the hole... the lower the noise

    It is posible to change it by editing the lv2 buzzer syscall. During playing with ps2_net_emu I make a mistake with one of the values for the payload for the sm manager, it sounds like a fingernail knock against paperbord. Iam not sure that I had make notes about this, if I found it I post it.

    That could be nice, instead of a "beep, beep" when turning the PS3 on... a "tac, tac"

    I never worried much about this, but while thinking in it i agree the volume level of the buzzer is excesive
    If at some point someone finds a way to reduce the buzzer volume level by software i guess is something i would like to use
    Anyway... the next time i open the PS3 probably im going to reduce the volume of the buzzer "by hardware" \o/
    The idea of the cotton ball inside the hole was fine... but i have doubts if in long term could make malfuction the buzzer permanently (just because is not designed to have a cotton ball inside so it vibrates different)
    I guess is better to cover it with a plastic cap... or silicone... something like that

    Edit:
    In the photo i posted in my previous message appears a resistor labeled 102
    Most probably by increasing that resistance (by replacing it by a bigger one) the volume level is going to be reduced
    But imo is not worthy to solder in the motherboard just for this... unless someone wants to go "the hardcore way"
    But in that case... the mod could be made by replacing the 102 resitor by a "variable resitor" (the ones you can regulate with a screwdriver), this way you can have an accurate volume adjustment by rotating the variable resitor

    Its the first arg for the payload, in netemu hardcoded 0x29, in lv2 calculated from 0x1007 and also 0x29.
    Do something like this and you can hear it in steps from 0x29(original) to 0(off):
    Code:
    uint64_t lv2_peek(uint64_t addr)
    {
       system_call_1(6, addr);
       return (uint64_t)p1;
    }

    void lv2_poke(uint64_t addr, uint64_t val)
    {
       system_call_2(7, addr, val);
    }

    void buzzer(uint8_t mode)
    {
       uint16_t param = 0;

       switch(mode)
       {
         case 1: param = 0x0006; break;     // single beep
         case 2: param = 0x0036; break;     // double beep
         case 3: param = 0x01B6; break;     // triple beep
         case 4: param = 0x0FFF; break; // continuous beep, gruesome!!!
       }

       system_call_3(392, 0x1007, 0xA, param);
    }

    /***********************************************************************
    *
    ***********************************************************************/
    int32_t main(void)
    {
      uint64_t lv2_addr = 0x800000000000C254ULL;             // rebug 4.81 REX, into sys_sm_ring_buzzer()
      uint64_t val_orig = lv2_peek(lv2_addr);

      for(int32_t i = 0x29; i > -1; i--)
      {
        lv2_poke(lv2_addr, (val_orig & ~0xFFFFFFFFULL) | 0x38800000 | i);
        buzzer(1);
        sys_timer_sleep(1);
      }

      return 0;
    }

    Thanks, maybe this gives some hint to someone where to look for

    I was thinking even using cobra is not posible to "intercept" the first "beeps" when the PS3 boots, at that point there is not firmware loaded yet and the beeps are managed by syscon chip
    If i remember right there is a syscon package to configure it (and probably silent it) permanently, but a syscon package to change the volume im not so sure... and i doubt anyone was playing with that because messing around with syscon is risky, the prize is not much bigger (change the buzzer volume) but the risk is big (bricking the syscon)

    Maybe someone with a reference tool PS3 model could try to find it... i guess incase of syscon brick the syscon can be reprogrammed with the communication processor

    Edit:
    In some way this is why i decided to "fix it by hardware", because configuring it at syscon level doesnt looks easy :D

    Yes its risky, we talk about a value saying one part of hardware(syscon) what voltage should be given to another part of hardware(buzzer).
    And yes a patch to lv2 in firmware is needed to get it working from the start. For example a value of 0x27 sounds more like a normal PC mainboard buzzer.

    BTW, for the op, a HAN user, its useless. Your ideas are better for him, maybe a simple switch, easy to reach, for turn off the buzzer.
    A "silent mode" to avoid being caught by mummy :)
