    Hello everyone,
    I am new in this forum and I am also new in Jailbreaking a PS3.

    I have been looking around the net to find a way to Install a CFW but at the end of the day, I got really confused. Some website says that you just need an update and others, say that you need to use a file called NOR_NAND_writer_release_X.X_PS3Xploit

    With my limited knowledge, I know that with NOR_NAND_writer_release_1.0_PS3Xploit you need to copy flsh.hex on your usb root and execute in a windows machine the file miniweb.exe.

    But, what about with NOR_NAND_writer_release_2.0_PS3Xploit?
    Are the steps with NOR_NAND_writer_release_2.0_PS3Xploit the same as NOR_NAND_writer_release_1.0_PS3Xploit?

    This is where I get lost... Also, where do I get the CFW Firmware?

    So, Would someone be so nice to tell me step by step how to Jailbreaking my PS3?
    My PS3 model is CECH-2004B.

    Thank you in advance and in case I have opened a thread in a wrong section, I am sorry.

    Bye

    You should use the NOR HDD Flash Writer 2.0, you can safely rely on this step by step I wrote a while ago for a user with the same kind of console.
    Follow all the steps without exception.

    Ok that's a 2000,not a 2500 so you are most likely going to be able to jailbreak it and install rebug 100%

    You need to flash a hex file to your ps3's mobo using a webkit exploit before you can go along and install rebug.Make sure you are on 4.82 ofw before proceeding.Anything lower can brick your system

    Go to http://www.ps3xploit.com,on the top look for flash writer,write flash from hdd,select nor,be sure to select nor or you can brick.

    Once your on the correct exploit page follow the instructions and you will have your hex file flashed

    Once you flash your hex file and reboot once its flashed successfuly,you can update to rebug like any old update.

    I followed the instructions by setting my home page to http://ps3xploit.com/writer/index_nor_hdd.html

    Step 1
    I click where is says Press here -> File -> Save Target -> System Storage (Photo)

    It opens up a blank page with at the top left corner a red box with a white x inside it.
    I select that red square... I save it to my hdd and it gets stuck on Dowloading... Please wait.

    What do I do wrong?

    In theory with the ps3 browser, a short press of the X pad button on a link opens it up in the current tab while a long press opens it in a new tab.

    Anyway, instead of using the X button, you can place your cursor on the link, don't press X but instead press Triangle and the displayed menu, go to File -> Save Target As.
    Choose to store the file to System Storage.
    That's it.
    If you have problems downloading the file, I suggest you check your network settings. For this kind of network usage, Ethernet cable connection should always be preferred to the ever dodgy ps3 WiFi.

    Thank you so much for your quick reply!
    I will give it a try as soon as I get home.

    One more thing... Is it possible to Dump my original NOR in case Flash NOR fails...
    I mean, if I have the original NOR, that will prevent my PS3 from bricking.. Am I right?

    In case I want to Dump my Original Nor, I just follow your instructions:

    B) Dump NOR
    Now set your homepage to http://ps3xploit.com/dumper/index_nor_hdd.html
    Restart your browser.
    Follow the on screen instructions ie
    1. download the dump.jpg file
    2. initialize exploitation
    3. dump nor flash

    Well, thank you Mr. bguerville and Mr. Bloodmoons366466.for for taking the time to help me out with my questions.

    With Flash Writer 2.0, the NOR dump stage described in my post is a necessary step to end the patching process. It must be done & the dump must be validated before the console can be safely rebooted. It's currently the only way to be sure that no error was made & a partial brick will not occur after reboot.

    No real need to make a NOR backup before using the Flash Writer 2.0 because a partial brick can be recovered without it simply using CoreOS data extracted from the 4.82 firmware PUP file.

    Having said that, fundamentally speaking & independently from any jailbreak operation, it's a good idea for a ps3 console owner to keep a full backup of the Flash Memory, including the data unique to your console, safe.

    FYI
    The new Flash Writer 4.0 Final Update to be released in coming weeks (if you care to wait) is 100% brick risk free. It takes care of all preliminary requirement checks as well as full validation of the patch, leaving no room for possible user error.

    Hello,
    I have just two last questions... hopefully...

    1- Can I Dump NOR my PS3 before attempting to Jailbreaking it?
    I am asking this because I tried the following

    B) Dump NOR
    Now set your homepage to http://ps3xploit.com/dumper/index_nor_hdd.html
    Restart your browser.
    Follow the on screen instructions ie
    1. download the dump.jpg file
    2. initialize exploitation
    3. dump nor flash

    But, I get Exploiting Failed at 95%... Does this happen because I have to jailbreak my PS3 first?

    2- When it comes to custom firmware, I was thinking to install the
    REBUG_4.82.2_LITE_PS3UPDAT.PUP – 9169c185a6b960cb933f7f3d9973c7f8
    Would this CFW work on my PS3 model?
    Or like for jailbreaking it, there are certain CFW that are made specifically for some PS3 models?

    I am sorry for my dummy questions but I am still really new in the PS3's world of CFW / Jailbreak.

    1. Exploit initialization failure?
    Have you restarted the browser after setting the exploit as browser homepage?
    Do so & try again, initialization should work fine.
    You must always run an exploit on a freshly started browser. The exploit page should always be the 1st & only page the browser loaded since it started!
    Another option is to create browser favourites for each exploit page you need, set "blank" as homepage, restart the browser & launch the browser favourite you need.
    Everytime you change exploit page or need to retry the same exploit page, the browser must be restarted.
    As to your question about keeping a dump, I already answered it.

    2. All CFWs are compatible with your model. Install what you want, if you don't like it, you can change it easily at any time by installing another CFW PUP file from XMB - System Update via USB.

    For a first 4.82 CFW, I recommend either:

    A. Ferrox Cobra 4.82 if you wish to try a Cobra CFW.

    B. Rebug REX 4.82 (Hybrid CEX/DEX CFW) if you wish to have access to all possible CFW features.

    C. Ferrox Standard CEX 4.82 (or other standard CEX 4.82) if you prefer to try a CFW with fewest built-in features. Typically, users relying on standard CEX can make use of multiman and/or mamba for features.

    Before making your choice, I suggest you read this thread Cobra vs Mamba vs Rebug REX

    I went ahead with the exploitation of my PS3.

    I Dumped the NOR and I checked like you suggested that everything went fine with PyPS3checker

    This is what I got

    Code:
    ******* Checking CoreOS_region *******
    009.01   ROS0 Header : OK
    009.02   ROS0 Hash : WARNING!
      Size = 0x6FFFE0
      MD5 = A517F32323F80AC5B07DE4C093E3679A
      Version = (unknown)
    009.03   ROS0 unused 0xFF Filled Area : OK
    009.04   ROS1 Header : OK
    009.05   ROS1 Hash : OK
      Size = 0x6FFFE0
      MD5 = 4674CA6C38D45171F45C48191528E36F
      Version = 4.82 CEX Patched (PS3Xploit v2.0)
    009.06   ROS1 unused 0xFF Filled Area : OK

    ******* Checks completed *******
    Total number of checks = 156
    Number of dangers = 0
    Number of warnings = 1
    Following check(s) returned a WARNING!
      009.02   ROS0 Hash
    May I reboot my PS3 or something went wrong?

    Anyhow, I am going to keep my PS3 on until I have the confirmation from the community that I can safely reboot it and later being able to install a CFW.

    Thanks again for everything.

    You probably did not install OFW twice, as advised. But it is fine to continue and install CFW.

    Yes, I did not do it because I am dummy :(

    So, would you suggest me to go ahead and install the CFW or if possible re-install the OFW twice this time and do everything again?
