I got errors when checking my unflashed NAND. Is it safe to continue?

    Hey everyone and thank you for all that you do. So I just dumped my NAND (I have an old Phat PS3) and I ran the checker on it and at the end it said this:

    ******* Checks completed *******
    Total number of checks = 113
    Number of dangers = 2
    Number of warnings = 1
    Following check(s) returned a DANGER!
    008.03 trvk_prg1 SCE
    008.07 trvk_pkg1 SCE
    Following check(s) returned a WARNING!
    008.04 trvk_prg1 Hash
    All checks done in 1.87 seconds.

    Is it safe for me to move on to the next step of flashing my nand or will I risk a brick if I do so? Will these be fixed when I flash the exploit and/or when I install my CFW (planning on using Rebug)? Thank you.

    Try to reinstall OFW from safe mode. I'm assuming that your dump is made by using webkit exploit, so chances for bad dump are low. Anyway @littlebalup tool assume that SCE is on 0x52820 (8.03) 0x53820 (8.05) and on 0x54820 (8.07). While in your dump only 8.05 is valid. I think your dump can be interesting for devs. Anyway, wait for answer from someone more knowledgeable with your next step. I can't say is safe or no, to flash that nand. Revoke is important flash region.

    Yeah that's strange. Maybe trvk program and package 1 areas are blank or something (like on EMMC dumps). That's the first time I see that on NAND.
    Could you share you share your dump in private?

    I uploaded my NAND dump to my google drive account and tried to send you the link in a private message but this error pops up when I try to send it:

    "Your content can not be submitted. This is likely because your content is spam-like or contains inappropriate elements. Please change your content or try again later. If you still have problems, please contact an administrator."

    What else can I try to get this to you?

    That is probably just the spam filter as you are new user with very few posts, I think it should work if you just break up the link with some spaces like htt p : // ww w. linktofile . co m .

    Thank you very much. It's very interesting.

    Analyse / assumptions of the situation:

    - Seems you have a refurbished console with a COK-002W mainboard (a replacement mainboard?):
    Code:
    ******* Getting SKU identification datas *******
      idps = 0x03
      metldr0 = 0xE920
      metldr1 = 0x0E8E

      Matching SKU : OK
       CECHExx (COK-002W)
       Minimum version 3.40
    It has already been referenced at least one time on the wiki in this table : http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Validating_flash_dumps#Check_metldr.2Bbootldr_sizes

    - About revok region:
    Code:
    ******* Checking Revokation_region *******
    008.00   trvk_prg Region Header : OK
    008.01   trvk_prg0 SCE : OK
    008.02   trvk_prg0 Hash : OK
      Size = 0x2E0
      MD5 = 17C2074A28C7FDE825293210F8905446
      Version = 3.40 (from factory)

    008.03   trvk_prg1 SCE : DANGER!
      At offset : 0x52820
      Actual data :
       > FF FF FF FF
      Expected data :
       > 53 43 45 00

    008.04   trvk_prg1 Hash : WARNING!
      Size = 0xFFFF
      MD5 = 3813ED777570726EBD98C404EDF6DFF6
      Version = (unknown)

    008.00   trvk_pkg Region Header : OK
    008.05   trvk_pkg0 SCE : OK
    008.07   trvk_pkg1 SCE : DANGER!
      At offset : 0x54820
      Actual data :
       > FF FF FF FF
      Expected data :
       > 53 43 45 00
    [IMG]

    trvk_prg0 is 3.40 from factory (different but same version than RL_FOR_PROGRAM.img from the 3.40 update pup) and matches the assumed minimum version.
    trvk_prg1 and trvk_pkg1 are totally blank (0xFF filed).
    So, seems revokation regions have not been updated since the factory. It's also the case of all the EMMC dumps seen until now. Seems revokation regions are not updated in flash (not used?) since 3.56 or 3.60 pup... to be confirmed.

    Conclusion:
    Anyway, your dump is good and you can install a CFW using PS3xploit without issue.The checker returned dangers and warning because your console is uncomon...

    To confirm things:
    - Do you remember / do you know if your console as been refurbished/repaired by Sony?
    - Could you confirm the minimum version by using minverchk pup?
    - Once you installed a CFW, could you make a full dump of your NAND using the rebug toolbox, then share it? (bootldr is missing from PS3xploit NAND dumps).

    Thanks for looking into this and your theories. I did send in this console back to Sony because I think the disc drive broke. It wasn't playing any of my games anymore. So maybe they did change the mainboard on me.

    I did run the minimum version checker and in pretty sure it told me my minimum version was 1.0. So it's weird to me that my checklog says my minimum version is 3.4. I was very busy today at work so I didn't have a chance to install the exploit and get another dump for you. I'll try to have that to you by next week.

    When you sent it to Sony for repair, they did not change the mainboard. They updated the metldr on the NAND Flash, and is why min version showed 3.40. Which is from a 25xx slim model. Most likely is what was the most recent at the time of repair. Your lucky it wasn't repaired later when metldr.2 was the most recent.

    I have seen lots of PS3s that have been repaired by Sony. You will always get the SKU Identity error because of Sony doing that to them. Even though the PS3 probably only needed a laser.

    Thats pretty interesting, im guessing as mentioned above they're common practice because to just update the NAND or NORs of all turned in systems to avoid them from being hacked...even if its something totally unrelated they just did it.

    Work and family have been very busy so I haven't had a chance to do this yet. But Wednesday is my day off and I will definitely do it then and get you another dump with rebug tool box. Just wanted to let you guys know that I haven't forgotten about it.

    Actually, I do have one last question before I do this. I wanted to upgrade my hard drive to the max possible size and bought a 1.5TB drive. Should I install this new drive first and then run the exploit or should I run the exploit first and then upgrade? Or does it really not matter?

    Not sure that 1,5 TB was good choice..
    Anyway I think you can first use exploit, and then change disc.

    Well I did a lot of searching and got mixed answers as to what's the max. Some were saying 2TB and some were saying 1.75TB but none of them showed any real proof or said what drive they used. But I did find a lot of people saying that 1.5TB is the max and said what drives worked. So I found the drive on Amazon and read the questions people posted on it and even there they said that the drive I bought will work. I guess I'm going to find out later.

    But anyway, I'm thinking I should change the hard drive first and then run the exploit. Otherwise I'm thinking if I run the exploit first and install CFW and then change out my drive, I'm just going to have to install CFW all over again on the new drive anyways.

    But you wouldn't need to run ps3xploit again (and shouldn't run as it is for ofw only). So it really doesn't make a difference.

    1TB is officially the largest internal HDD for the PS3. Even though some larger ones might work, but I have never got a 2TB to work.

    I would suggest using a 1TB, and some external HDDs.

    maybe your ps3 has been factory serviced, Ask @littlebalup if he can check your dump to be sure you can proceed
