If an Update folder exist in that game. It will install the official firmware ALWAYS verify the PUP's MD5 checksum. (see tut) Disable any Spoofs If you do not own a HARDWARE FLASHER or have the means to recover from a possiable brick. DO NOT RUSH to install a CFW / MFW Release. Allow the community to conduct test as some CFW do not get proper testing and even ones that do some models can act differenly so its best to give it at least a 3 day wait. Usually brick reports happen the first 24-48 Hours. Turn off internet connections when updating CFW's.( Wifi and Ethernet cable.) It's good practice to QA Flag your console. before installing a new CFW. Always a good idea to dump your eid_root_key Can be useful to take 1 or 2 dumps of you flash after a successful upgrade. Backup your Game Saves and edat/rif files to a pendrive, external HDD or FTP to PC.
Updates have been made (This collection to show at very least the first update to support version 4.80 CFW) Some homebrew may have never updates. Please be sure to verify you have the correct version).
Nice thread really well organized, did not even release rebug released an 4.80 cfw whoops... guess its time to install!
I don't think that @habib will release something on 4.80, we got now CEX, cobra, Rebug firmwares. I hope he will, because he like to add something new in every release.
Who knows, there could be a Cobra 7.4?? Anyway, I agree with kozarovv it's doubtful that he would release a 4.80 CFW that doesn't add anything new to the scene, given the current CFW scene situation. Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk
From previous comments he has stated that he does not intent to release any CFW unless he adds new CFW features. So if we see a new habib CFW it would most likely come with some new features.
Yep, I'm still hoping he's gonna release a brand new 4.80cfw, I always use his firmware, I consider it to be the most refined of all releases... Till then, I'll be waiting and searching...
More refined than Rebug? Not really! Remember that until now every relevant new feature released by habib has been integrated into Rebug nearly immediately! If anything Rebug & Habib would be about the same level of refinement, with Rebug offering many more features. After that it's a question of taste & needs. Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk
Yes it is fine. For updating, you can install any CFW flavour on top of your current one. Note that this is nearly always true, the only compatibility issue a user may experience is between CEX & DEX. As long as you are in CEX mode (habib fw is CEX so this is your case), you can update to any CEX based CFW. Remember that generally Rebug releases 2 versions of its firmware, REX to be installed on CEX based consoles (again that is your case) & D-REX to be installed on DEX based consoles. and how about if i have ps3 Original (Means Normal run from CD), is it possible if i update/ install CFW like Habib, Ferrox, Rebug to this Original PS3? still running well if i run the cfw on ps3 Original? OFW -> CFW (need hard step?) Thanks again...
Yes it's possible but remember to install CFW over OFW only works if your OFW is 3.55 maximum. More recent official fw versions won't let you install a CFW. You would need a hardware flasher to install a CFW (& only if the console is a FAT or Slim up to CECH-250x, later consoles cannot be flashed back to 3.55). Don't believe any YT video or site telling you it's possible to install a CFW over a console running OFW 4.80. It is all a lie, you CANNOT install a CFW over OFW>3.55 with a PUP, you need a hardware flasher. If you have not taken the time yet, check baileyscream Ultimate Foolproof Downgrading Guide to understand what it's all about.
I already told you. With a hardware flasher like Teensy or E3. It can only work with a compatible console i.e. Up to CECH-250x. With a CECH-250x you should check if the console is compatible with the MinVerChk PUP file. If you need detailed information, Google the "Ultimate Foolproof Downgrading Guide" from baileyscream. All the information you need to get started is there.
