Hello everyone, the question is when will Sony stop updating the ps3?
since there are almost no game made for the ps3
in an bussiness sense would be (like all other companys) dump it or dont update is
becuause every update spent not making money is an day wasted

and when they dont update the ps3 anymore the homebrew community can kick in

unknown. the last update was to renew bluray keys. they have to be updated every 12-18 months I believe. also, remember: sony updated the psp some 18 months after the previous update. Nintendo just gives up at this point, but Sony doesn't like looking like idiots.

4.82 is probably one of the last update, it appeared only to fix security bug. Repairing gap found by the guys from the ps3exploit team, probably the next larger step that will be made by the gentlemen from psx place scene will cause the next update. For example, getting fully into the larger PS3 models. Yes, Sony would not release new updates anymore, if it were not for an exploit, then 4.81 would be the last update for a long time. Sony is still making money on ps3 games, and the hack super slim consoles would make access to more money.

Actually it was just a coincidence that the 4.82 update came out so close to the 4.81 exploit news, it did not patch anything that is why the exploit still works on 4.82. It is kind of strange that they have not patched it at all yet tbh, maybe it really is too much work for no gains at this stage, its even possible that it lead to a boost in PS4 sales which offset anything they lost from PS3s PSN..

4.82 update didn't fixed hole used by ps3xploit. That's why you have working downgrader also on 4.82. Update seems to be just aacs keys renoval update. Nothing more.
And this is probably not last update, AACS keys need to be updated every 12-18 months.

it's unlikely that sony has given up on the ps3 entirely. it was originally believed that sony updates were the result of rebug ones since new updates seemed to come out within ten days or so of a rebug update. I expect an update of some sort, but I think it's pretty much too late for sony to save the ps3. the software of the system sucks anyway.

Maybe it patched KRACK attacks wpa2 vulnerabilities in add of aacs keys? If not yet, it may result of a next update.
    Just assumptions.

afaik, the ps2's software is updated through hardware revisions. you can see the software number in the browser. I'm not sure if you can actually update it though.

the ps3 will probably see an end to software updates, but that might be three or so years down the road.

When they disconnect her from network services and no longer cares about xpassphrase updates, WiFi/BT updates and DVD-Video keys updates. It is high probably this day coming in nearest... few years. :D

@pinky PS2 fw is on ROM. :P It cannot be updated. Well, to be honest there is some function called OSD Update in the firmware (additional software which can replace on the fly several components; for Memory Card and Internal HDD) but it was used only for first models to add DVD-Player and special junk named BroadBand Network which came with some kind of micro Linux to be installed on HDD. The scene turned this into sweet evil thing which everyone known as FMCB and FHDB (in the past: Vast/FreeVast, M+, M32).

I think of myself more a modder than a dev. or, maybe someone who's knowledgeable. I mostly know about the ps3 and the 360. and, I'm learning about the wii u atm. you can check out some of what I know in my tutorials. there wasn't enough room to list all of them (limited to three links). I have 3ds, vita, and one ps4 tutorial as well. I'm mostly proud of the ps3 and the 360 ones though. I decided on the wii u tutorials to be my last one since I like the "deleting a fake ticket" tutorial. I find that to be an important tutorial. I have it listed in my sig on gbatemp as well since it's needed for people who either can't get something to install from the eshop or to prevent accidental bricks when installing cbhc.

most of my systems are for testing and research. the only system that I do play is the wii u. I plan to buy a switch at some point. I'm a Nintendo fanboy mostly. I even have a Super Mario Bros. cover on my bed. :-p

I'm referring to the software that's done at the factory. there are like three software versions listed in the browser. I think you have to press triangle to see them.
