Universal Media Server has been bumped to version 4.2.2 and with it further device support. One that jumps out to me is the added PS Vita support. Albeit incomplete it is a sure welcome to the project that many will be happy to see. Please note [break].[/break]that the OS X version is not out yet.

Sony has released information on it's upcoming TV Cloud Service (PlayStation Vue) for Sony Console's such as the PS4/PS3 and most likely the PS Vita/ PlayStation TV as well, plans for expanding to other devices such as Ipad are also in the fold, so be sure to keep a watch out on that as this service evolves over the next several months... The service will roll out an invite-only Beta in the US this month on both [break].[/break]the PS3, PS4 and possibly Ipad also. [break].[/break]

At launch the service will boast about 75 Channels that includes Local broadcast channels as well as cable channels from the likes of Viacom, NBC-Universal, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, Discovery Communications and many more media outlets. Also PlayStation Vue will offer On-Demand content with popular programming being available on the cloud for 3 days after airing live. Also the service will provide user's with the ability to save shows on the cloud for a period of 28 days Sony has confirmed. Early in 2015 Sony expects to roll out the service in select US cities and expand from there. So it could be months before you get to enjoy this service but the ball seems to be rolling. Reading over at the German tech website golem.de an IT security expert claims that Sony's PlayStation Network is vulnerable to a SQL injection attack. What is also alarming is that Aria Akhavan claims to have informed Sony regarding the matter, at the time of writing this, almost three weeks ago. If this is to be a valid claim [break].[/break]and if the threat still persists we could see another fiasco as we did back in 2011, when about 70 million account information was essentially stolen. Another update in for Universal Media Server as it reaches version 4.2.1. This is a stable version so don't confuse it with the alpha build (5.0.0-a1) released about two weeks ago. Update 4.2.1 improvements include transcoding speed, language support and abundant [break].[/break]support to various devices. Linux users, be sure to read the note from the developer in the quote below.

Universal Media Server reaches version 5 today. The alpha build, which requires JAVA version 7 and upwards, adds universal plug and play support. Also in the mix is file name referencing via IMDB and HTML 5 support. [break].[/break]Full changelog listed below.

Universal Media Server, the DLNA compliant UPnP media server, reaches version 4.2.0 today which adds further support for 3D rendering. These include 2D to 3D subtitle conversion as well as 3D video conversion. The update also addresses a few bugs for Windows and OS X users by updating FFmpeg. Devices such as [break].[/break]the Xbox One console, Panasonic and Philips TV's also get improved support.
