Here we are again folks. The Team behind RPCS3 are showing again that the "Emulation from PS3 Games" are still a thing with it's newest Progress Report for July 2018. Last Month we saw a huge progress in allowing PS1 Classics Support through Emulation. But this time they searched for a new challenge. One of the advantages of Emulating PlayStation Titles on a PC was always that both a higher Output Resolution and a higher Framerate can be achieved through several Game Titles. The same applied for Emulating PS2 Game Titles as well through PCSX2, when you are able to emulate dozens of PS2 Titles in HD Resolution or even higher. PS3 Game Titles sees those similar potentials as well, so the Team tried this out and claims that it can even "Outperform a physical PS3" by emulating a Game in 4K Resolution. Which Game this it can be found down below.
Developer @Zar (creator of the ManaGunz Homebrew also) let us know that an update to the PS3 CFW Homebrew utility known as IDPSet has received a new update to version 0.88. Since the previous update coming in Sept. 2015, developer Zar has made new improvements to the utility that introduces expanded IDPS support along with improved CFW support of the "eid_root_key" dumper.
Well, this time it didn't took long since the last Progress Report. And since the last month showed us that more and more PS3 Game Titles getting supported for this Emulator (which is very good as well), this month the Great Team behind RPCS3 anoounces in their newest Progress Report for June 2018, that they gained the ability to run PS1 Classics via RPCS3! Yes you read it right, PlayStation 1 Game Titles running via RPCS3. Althought that they already previewed this achievement a few weeks before and the fact that only those named "PS1 Classics" from the PlayStation Store will be able to run on RPCS3 due to software limitations from the original PS1 Emulator on PS3, it is still great to see what's actually possible throught Emulation by "Emulating a PS1 Game on a emulated PS3". Now after you read this last sentence, imagine the Inception Horn is ringing in your mind.
The popular background running PS3 Plugin for Custom Firmware user's: webMAN MOD has been updated by developer @aldostools to version 1.47.09, this looks like a great update with a number of changes geared to improving the overall performance of the plugin with various tweaks, while also adding some new functionality for your CFW enabled PS3 with new features and new support for example new cores (libretro) for retro support of the recently updated PKG ROM Launcher..View the provided changelog included for all changes in this update (update: see post for additional details)
Maybe you were already wondering (or shouting) like: "Hey, where is my updated Progress Report for my beloved PS3 Emulator this month?!?!" Don't worry, that Project isn't closed. In fact, for this monthly Update, the Great Team behind RPCS3 showcased a lot of small but major improvements in emulating PS3 Game Titles for your PC. A lot of "AAA exclusives" were able to getting started for the first time! You can't play them 100% flawlessly (yet) but the past updates already showed that this is just "a matter of time." The software itself saw some improvements as well and the Team is pleased to announce that there are still new contributors, who joined them and making huge improvements. This is great to see that there is still such a huge interest behind this project. Maybe you are interested to join them as well?
PS2 Classic GUI is a useful utility for an exploited PS3 Console by either CFW or HAN, this utility makes converting your PS2 Games into PS2 Classic format a breeze and as more and more discoveries are made we see more updates provided for the popular utility created by @aldostools. The release of v2.2.2 comes to us today with a discovery that expands the game compatibility by now supporting PS2 Games that are in DVD9 format. Recently we seen @kozarovv figured out an issue when trying to help get an English Patch for Final Fantasy XII IZSJ Working, Not only was a solution found but a guide was written as well >> Running PS2 DVD9 games on HAN/CFW . Then to make the process even easier now developer Aldostools has incorporated the needed changes into the PS2 Classic Utility (for PS3) while adding a few other features like an AUTO-SUGGEST features for PS2 Configs which seen support added in v2.1
PS3 PKGLAUNCHER (webMAN MOD Addon) now supporting additional RetroArch-libretro cores with new update
Developer @aldostools has supplied an update to one of the add-on's for webMAN MOD plugin for PS3 (CFW) user's. The PKGLAUNCHER feature which debuted on the project in wMM v1.45.04 allows for launching of RetroArch Roms from the XMB via the pkglauncher tool. With RetroArch making changes to cores names and new cores being supported on the PS3, developer Aldostools decided an update was needed and thus this new build has been rolled out for webMAN MOD user's. This is currently labeled as a test build so if you experience any issues be sure to drop a line in the comments below.
Hello psx-place users! Today I (@clayson) present to you the MSF Converter which supports converting .wav/.xwm files to .msf, .msf is an audio format used in some games such as Skyrim (so yes, this can be used to convert .wav/.xwm to .msf for Skyrim and it will work). There are still plenty of features I plan on adding to this tool, but the base tool is complete and works quite well according to testers.
Maybe you had it already recognized but the last few days and weeks, the PS4 had it's priorities regarding several highlights like from various Kernel Exploits for several newer System Firmwares or even from a preview for a new "Framework" for making things easier in Future by getting more Power to all Functions within the PS4. We know that you won't get tired about the latest and greatest News for the PS4 but there are also other Consoles made by Sony, who deserved your attention as well - so as it is for it's predecessor the PS3. And maybe even when you can enjoy your Backups and Homebrews on the latest System Firmware available for the PS3, it doesn't mean that the Developers are stopping to "tinker" with the Console or that there is nothing more left to explore. So as the Team behind the "RPCS3 PS3 Emulator" doesn't by updating their monthly "Progress Report" for April 2018.
Updates about this project can be seen here
In 2018 we have already seen so much progress on the PlayStation 3 with a variety of new exploits and hacks that have opened many new avenues for people to join the homebrew community. However, the community developer's still are not done making new breakthroughs on the platform. One roadblock has remained on the PS3 and that was Hardware Acceleration on the NVIDIA RSX GPU, while we have seen the PS Vita / PSTV get HW Acceleration recently and how its has helped many projects on the platform. the PPC / CELL environment of the PS3 offers a challenging adventure with the architecture that the PS3 is built on, that sadly not many have been able to undertake and solve over the years, however that may of just changed.......
Developer RenéRebe has made some great progress on the PS3 in OtherOS++ (PS3 Linux), He produced a video on YouTube detailing the technical side of this breakthrough for PS3 Linux (OtherOS++) that Hopefully (my personal hope) can benefit GameOS one day as well so that we can improve the overall homebrew landscape as well like perhaps finally the inclusion of an N64 emulator(?) or Improved 3d emulation in general, we know the hardware (if emu contains a PPC port) can do it, point to the internal emulators of PS2 / PSP / PS1 emulation to gauge the capabilities of emulation on the HW.
