AHX (Abyss Highest eXperience) Music Disk - (c) 2004 Raizor
- This is a little test application for PS2 IOP of Abyss AHX replayer.
It contains 200 (AHX) or 600+ (AHX Reloaded) different songs by a number of great AHX artists.
It was created mainly to test the irx module functioned correctly.
- Firstly, you need a pad plugged into slot 1.
Left and Right on the D-Pad cycle through the different artists.
Up and Down on the D-Pad cycle through song by the selected artist.
X plays currently highlighted song.
- The AHX format has support for subsongs.
This basically means that each song file (blah.ahx) could have one or more seperate songs within in.
This feature has been quite badly abused
(either by the AHX tracker authors *doubtful* or lazy bastard musicians *highly probable*).
As a result of sloppiness, a lot of songs report to contain subsongs when they don't.
Subsong support has, as a result of this, been totally removed from this production
(the IRX supports it, but you'll need to listen to songs first to check if the numbers are correct).
The C++ player code by Dexter/Abyss on which the IRX is based has built in support for oversampling.
This samples sound and a larger scale than the player needs and then scales it down to the correct size for the replayer.
In essence, oversampling gives the sound a smoother, more blended quality.
Oversampling on the IOP uses a lot of CPU power and a lot of songs will sound really nasty or slow down.
As a result, oversampling is not included in this musicdisk.
It's available in the IRX though...
Besides, oversampling is evil and modern.
- Emoon/TBL - For fixed point magic on the filter generation code.
