"Dave Gnukem is a 2D scrolling platform shooter. It is inspired by and similar
to Duke Nukem 1, one of my all-time favourite games. It currently runs on
Windows, Linux and BeOS.

Although this is by no means a finished game, it is playable. You can walk,
jump, shoot baddies, collect stuff, die, teleport, open doors, use lifts, open
boxes etc."

I'm happy to say that Playstation 2 can now be added to the list of platforms
Dave Gnukem current runs on.

I found this game a couple weeks ago and it seemed like it could be pretty
entertaining, so I started the PS2 port as quick little project to waste a few
hours on, to then release over the weekend. However file I/O quickly became a
nightmare and I've spent a lot more time on this than I intended, but I think
it was worth it.

There are some known bugs, some missing features, and the menu needs to have
options that don't make sense for PS2 removed, but I've already put more work
into it than I intended, so I've decided to release it as is and take a short
break from it.

Default Controls:
-----------------
D-Pad : Move Left/Right
Cross : Shoot
Square : Jump
Triangle : Action

Known bugs:
-----------
-Any bugs in the original game are likely present in the PS2 port

-Dying in the pungee sticks will often cause a crash. Possibly because of...

-Certain resoruce data might not be loading 100% correctly, however there does
not seem to be any major differences in gameplay.

FAQ / QIKIBASIATN:
------------------

Q: How do I run this?
A: Like most things I've released lately, it has no special boot requirements
and should be loadable in any way you can normally load ELFs.

Q: I died in the pungee sticks and suddenly there was a lot of text on the
screen.
A: First off, thats a statement, not a question... Secondly, that is an
exception screen (meaning the game crashed). Thirdly, this is a known bug,
sorry.

Q: What are "pungee sticks" ?
A: Pungee sticks are bamboo spikes, traditionally put into pits as a trap,
impaling any animals or people that fall into the pit, killing them in a
very gruesome way that for some reason is glorified in movies. Chances are you
know exactly what they are but just didn't know their name, you learn something
new every day!

...more to the point, they are the spike looking things in the game...

Q: What is the "Action" button for?
Q: How do I use keys?
Q: What are the triangle things on the floor for?
A: The action button uses keys, activates lifts and teleporters, and goes
through "exit" doors.

Q: Whats the deal with the version numbers?
A: The original Dave Gnukem this port is based on is version 0.56. This port
is not complete though, so I've labeled it as v0.8 of the PS2 port. When the
port of Dave Gnukem 0.56 to PS2 is complete and free of any port related bugs,
it will be labeled as the PS2 Port v1.0 of Dave Gnukem 0.56.

Q: WTF is QIKIBASIATN?
A: Questions I Know I'll Be Asked So I'm Answering Them Now.
