I wondered whether anyone could inform me, how I can add a software manual to a game, when converting a PSX game from an ISO to PKG. For example, fighting games such as SF Alpha 3 etc. it would be ideal if I could simply press the PS home button, and access the 'software manual' option to refresh my memory of the combos. Rather than pausing the game and constantly looking them up on a PDF file on my laptop.

Can't recall the exact file it is but when I did it I extracted am official PKG and found the DDS location. Simply pack your own games to reflect the official one and it works great.

You'll need to a DOCUMENT.DAT file and you'll need to place it in the GAMEID/USDIR/CONTENT/ folder. You can do this before creating PKG or just add them to the /dev_hdd0/game/GAMEID/USDIR/CONTENT/ folder on your ps3 hdd for already installed games. There are many manuals made by others on this site: http://www.psxpspmanuals.com/ , it will save you the hassle of creating/converting it yourself.

EDIT: dont bother with link, the manuals from the link only work on a psp. While the format is exactly the same the headers are different. And while user made manuals and official ones both work on the psp it appears it's not the case on the ps3. Also decrypted manuals from official EBOOT's wont work on a PS3. Seems your only option is getting your hands on the official PSN version. Some others looked into it: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f177/ps3-psn-psx-document-dat-file-99864/

You can use RetroXMB as it supports using .DDS files for PSX if I recall correctly and @Cypher_CG89 thanks my phone's been acting up lately but luckily @Sdw100 seems to have sorted it for me.

I don't know what system OP works with (since it's in a cfw/hen subforum) but on HEN 2.3.1 a PKG made by RetroXMB 1.7.1 will result in the following:

ERROR: Unsupported firmware or the syscalls are disabled. Some functions are limited.

Same on a Rebug 4.84.2 system. Is it updated beyond 4.81?

RetroXMB uses a custom version of IRISMAN as PSX launcher.. the SELF in RetroXMB haven't been updated in 2 years...
So the version that you tested don't have support for PS3HEN or CFW 4.84.

Try replacing the RELOAD.SELF in TEMPLATE-PSX with the file attached.

Thank you, that did the trick on Rebug 4.84.2, on HEN it black screened once launced. Tried it multiple times (full reboots in between just to be sure) but the same result.

@atreyu187 your suggestions works great once you replace the RELOAD.SELF with the one Aldo provided.

Now that you mention it, you're right.. it won't work on PS3HEN.
That SELF launches the PSXISO calling the ps1_emu / ps1_netemu directly, which causes the infamous black screens on HEN...
That why IRISMAN have to use the Cobra method to mount PSXISO on HEN, which doesn't have direct game start like in CFW.

Haven't been using my HEN system much now that I have my CECHB-01 back but I'll add that to my app. Thanks again!!

@Cypher_CG89 yup use Chrome on my phone. Thought that may be the issue. Just gotten so used to the resource hog I don't like other browsers though I know there any many better ones out there.

@atreyu187 can the package listed here be updated with the new RELOAD.SELF for other users? Or is @kozarovv the one to ask since he's the uploader?
