    Fairly old chip and has to be used differently for PS1 & PS2 modes but does the trick.

    • Magic v3 Booting Instructions

      To boot PS2 Games:

      To boot PS1 Games and DVD Movies:
      Put the PS2 into stand by mode (By pressing and holding the reset button)
      Turn on the PS2 by pressing and holding the reset button, until the blue CD eject light comes on
      Open the CD tray (eject)
      Insert the PS1 game and close the tray
      PS1 game will now boot up

    That,and the fact that back in the day Matrix wasnt a chocie, either you used the Magic or Messiah lol :D

    At least here, Matrix Infinity was for the rich kids, Messiah and Magic were the cheaper alternatives in the 2000s :-p

    The DMS chips were ways the costly ones here. Could get Matrix for less then $10 and now with the clones even cheaper.

    If your modchipped PS2 SCPH-90000 console doesn't boot FMCB, then the only way to make the console boot FMCB is to change its modchip to Modbo or Matrix Infinity, if you're expert enough in soldering.

    Well, because some of PS2 SCPH-90000 series console are equipped with plain modchips which only designed to run bootlegged games but not designed to run FMCB which is pretty essential for every PS2 users. Then, you might need either matrix infinity or modbo in order to run FMCB but it requires soldering skills.

    Go search deeper about FMCB, use Google to figure it out.

    He hasn't asked about FMCB and as long as a Modchip supports 'DEV.1', it should be possible to boot into FMCB.

    Matrix and it's clones are not the only chips to support this! Infact, they are not even the inventors!

    Well this is sort of right. Since Sony half ass fixed it like they do. You can install FMCB to any PS2. Just those later model slim's just can not launch it without help of say a wLaunch and manually loading the app from the MC.

    Pro:
    39k = durable; has all connections and internal HDD-slot
    50k = internal HDD-Slot; quite Fan if HDD is not active.
    70k = HDD-Connections are still on board
    90k = internal PSU and if it has BOOT-ROM 2.20, it is still compatible with FMCB.
    All Slims = integrated LAN

    Con:
    39k = loud fan
    50k = BA-Chip-fault/issue; starting from this model, there is no FireWire anymore; sometimes they come shipped with Sanyo lasers, which seem to be worse than the KHS
    70k = Summ0ne-fix needed, if it is a V12 (not sure about the V13)
    Every Slim released after that one = usually no way to add an internal HDD, except for HD Pro.
    90k = often not compatible with FMCB (except for other purposes an's if booting Homebrew, like via a Chip)

    Btw i have one unrecognized chip too. On the PCB is writing firechip2. The ic chip is ubicom sx28ac/ss + 74hc73d. I had it on my first 50k model. I have change it for modbo as it not supported dev1 or dev2.
    included install diagram (its just edited modbo diagram)

    I think the 3900 is the most durable all around but the 5000 "officially" supports DVD+R and I like the PSX launcher elf which last I looked (some years admittedly) only worked for that model and up.

    So with it being the last model with HDD support off the rip makes it nice as well. While we have POPS it isn't quiet as compatible as using the elf launcher. Bit since I got my CECHB-01 PS3 I have no use for either of them.

    They sit in the shop packaged up when I want some old school nostalgia. But the model that gave me the most issues hands down was the 3000 series. My 3900 is still running strong with everything from the factory. It used to have issues with DVD+R disc but as time processed and disc got better it works just fine though not officially supported.

    My 5000 has had to have the laser replaced once but other then that it's been a beast. The 3000 model I just gave up on. Got it fixed but won't use it out of fear of it messing up again. Was my first PS3 so I can't stand the thought of selling it.
