I want to know if there's a way to turn off this beep via sofware? (without having to open ps3)
now we got the syscon key, is it possible?

edit: we can control the leds so i guess the beep wouldn't be a problem am i right?

With homebrew code you can make beeps, but i never heard a way to disable it permanently, i guess is a setting of syscon configuration

A "ghetto-deluxe" alternative is to make an small ball of cotton and insert it in the hole of the buzzer
Is better if you left some cotton outside, this way you can pull to remove it... or push it to insert more cotton inside, this way you can control the volume of it

*I never did it in a PS3, but it should work :P

Remove the TDK Buzzed from the Motherboard, problem solved.

Fun Fact: Previous Pre-Production 0.93/95 Debug Firmware actually has the Buzzer disabled upon start up, and a bit different tune orchestra Coldboot, same as the 1.00 but with a few extra instruments removed.

Never saw that firmware online, with the same stuff, PSM3 magazine actually had a Pre-Production PS3 with that special firmware on it, shame a dump isn't available.

Yeah, looks like that, "bootbeep stat" is to check the status, is replyes telling you if the actual status is either ON or OFF
And the others "bootbeep on" and "bootbeep off" are to change the status

Hopefully this is possible, my ears are somewhat sensitive to high pitched noises and would be great to be able to disable it without opening the PS3

The "user friendly" way i know is by creating a program/pkg specific for that task
Pretty much the same method used by the "toggle QA" PKG made by habib (and later included inside rebug toolbox)

The communications with the syscon are made using encrypted data packets... in concept is similar to the protocol used in network devices in beteen PC's, routers, etc...
You send data packages that are encrypted, and inside them there are commands, syscon decrypts the data package, reads the commands, and executes them

So is needed someone with experience to write the source code of a tool like that
...and btw, everything related with writing data inside syscon should be considered risky... incase syscon gets corrupted is a game over, the PS3 is not going to boot anymore and is imposible to repair it

I cant, sorry for the missunderstanding, what i meant is there is no easy way to modify that values in syscon because there is an encryption involved in the process and writing in syscon could kill the PS3
Is not the kind of thing we can do just patching some files "here and there", is needed a program well designed to do the task

If at some point is released a program like that it will be "user friendly" because it will be simple to use (like the QA flag... you just run it and it switches the state ON/OFF), but in the meantime is imposible for us to modify the syscon settings in a easy/safe way
