Found a CEX 1.02 update file the other day, and wondering if I can downgrade my CECHA01 from 4.84 rebug directly to 1.02. Yeah, I know there's no point in doing this, but just want to do it for the good old days. Did some search but all I found are people downgrading to 3.55, not to the lowest firmware.

So is it doable? I don't have a hardware flasher and I really don't want to brick my CECHA01.

Technically you can downgrade to any version as long as you don't go below minver. Be aware that SOME CECHA are minver 1.50

Thanks for confirming this. I checked mine CECHA01 and it's minver 1.00. Just enabled QA and put the update pup in USB drive, while the system is copying the update, it throws an error saying datatype is not supported. Any idea?

You can't directly go down to 1.02 from later versions of FW, You need to downgrade to 3.55 first then enable FSM to downgrade to 1.02 with lv2diag.self, Be cautious, if you try to install PUP w/ FSM enable via XMB you can get RSOD.

You need to do more in-depth research about how to install firmware via FSM.

To be fair CECH"C" was EU's launch model. A,B and E models were sold at the same time for a while.

Thank you so much! I did not know this restriction. So after reading some more info, I think the correct path should be:

    Downgrade to 3.55 with QA flag;
    Enter FSM;
Power off and power on with USB drive containing PS3UPDAT.PUP and Lv2diag.self. The system should automatically do the downgrade.
---This is the step I don't understand. According to some sources, PS3UPDAT.PUP in USB drive must be a CFW with no syscon checks, but I see people using OFW and it works?

There is a way to downgrade to 1.02 without a FSM. and you dont need a dongle for this
    Step 1. Download 1.02 PS3UPDAT.PUP
    2. download PUAD 1.2 FROM GOOGLE OR YOUTUBE
    3. Install PUAD
    4. select repacker and select Pup file 1.02 and on the image version just type 99999 and highlight manual
step 5 after you have selected the pup file select UPL in other options it should be highlighted in blue
    6. press start and wait.
    7. go to update_files/UPL.xml.pkg.decrypted and select content.xml and right click it and open with notepad + +
    8. when you open the file go where it says version in delete 01.02 and replace it with 99.99
    9. go to where it says build and delete the original image build and replace it with 99999
    10. press save
    11. go back to PUAD and select repack and wait for a while
    12. it should be saved as NEW-PS3UPDAT.PUP
    13. downgrade to 3.55 Rogero Downgrader because it wont work with rebug
    14. after you have downgraded to 3.55 make sure you have enabled toggle QA from rebug
    15. restart the system after enabling qa
    16. after you have restarted the system you can now install 1.02 firmware on it.
    17. put 1.02 on your usb stick on PS3/UPDATE and in there rename to PS3UPDAT.PUP and then plug it in your ps3
    18. install 1.02 from the xmb you dont need recovery menu for this.
19/. follow the install update screen and let it install
    20. you have installed 1.02 and as i said you dont need a dongle or a FSM.
IF YOU GET AN ERROR THAT SAID THE DATA IS CORRUPTED ON A INSTALL SCREEN TRY WITH DIFFERENT VERSIONS LIKE 1.90 AND FOLLOW THE SAME STEPS AS ABOVE AND THEN DOWNGRADE TO 1.02 FROM THERE.
    hope that helps

Entering FSM doesn't require JIG dongle though (Rebug toolbox can let you enter FSM without a dongle), which was why I said to use FSM from the beginning :) But yes this works too, I've done this for DECR FWs because I didn't want to enter FSM on DECR.

huh? that's weird, I even managed to downgrade all the way down to 0.95 while converted to DEX. Tested on my CECH-E01.

if rsx revision was the issue, he can't run 1.02 via modified PUP either, he probably failed to install the PUP via FSM and wiped out his dev_flash while in FSM and exited out which he may have thought he got bricked because NAND shuts itself off if no dev_flash found in NAND but can be recovered from recovery. btw 1.02 doesn't have a recovery but if PUP doesn't get installed then ROS doesn't swap so it would've been 3.55 ROS anyways which can enter recovery.

As long as CoreOS is alive and it has recovery mode then yes. but normally NAND boxes shut themselves off after 3 secs if no dev_flash on boot. which makes it scary but I do this all the time due to stage2 tests (if it gets bricked then I trigger FSM to wipe out dev_flash to remove stage2 :P)

Interesting stuff @Joonie, so a CECHE01 in DEX Conversion Mode can go below 1.00, thats a new i though you needed a legit DECHA00A or DECH-1000A with the early RSX revisions for that (which are quite rare and scarce, since Sony refurbed all the Units by replacing the RSX with a newer revision, eliminating the 1.00 and below downgrade)

Have you tried the method you found? You just need to do the same thing but on DEX mode
