I'm running an old CECHL model PS3 that I finally dug out, updated it to 4.82 OFW and hoped to do the browser exploit, but I can't use the browser at all. Page cannot be displayed 80710a06 is the only thing I can see. I assume this is because it has not signed in to the PSN for years? All it wants me to do is install a system update every time I try to connect to the PSN, which I assume I can't do. Any options for me?

This is a ssl error caused either by a ssl connection problem or by a ssl certificate verification error.
It's likely that the URL you are using cannot be used by the ps3 browser of your current firmware.
New SSL certificates are brought in with each new firmware updates, it's one of the rare things that still got updated in the past 2 or 3 years.
Personally I keep wondering why they don't just add as many compatible root certs (non-ecdsa ssl root certs) as they can like PC browser publishers do but anyway, they seem to prefer it this way, with many web sites unusable. Strange choice.

Regarding ps3xploit, the .com website doesn't use ssl so just stick to the standard http url:
    http://www.ps3xploit.com

As to the PS3 Toolset, it shouldn't be an issue for you, it is accessible over ssl only from a ps3 browser on firmware version 4.82+. Firmware 4.81 & below are not supported because the root cert of the ssl certificate we use was only added in firmware 4.82.
    https://www.ps3xploit.net/bgtoolset

Always use the full URL, don't omit http/https or www.

Remember to use all ps3xploit tools in a clean browser, the tool you choose to use should be the first Web page loaded in that browser session. You should never browse to the tools. The best way to go about it is to set the homepage as blank & add the various tools in the browser favourites.
You can then open the browser & launch the tool of your choice from favourites.

As well, Make sure the date on your console is set correctly. I think if the date is wrong it can make the SSL cert invalid sometimes IIRC.

    Yes definitely that too!
Thanks for this worthy addition, I should have mentioned it.

The ps3 toolset checks the ps3 system time as well because having it set wrong also appears to mess with timeout & interval calls in webkit js & in Flash.
But of course if the system time is really off say a couple of years or more, that might impact SSL verification to the point where the page just wouldn't load at all & would error out with a 0x8071A0xx code.

Thanks for the help! I'm pretty sure my issue was the omission of https://www. I already updated my system clock, which was wrong by quite a margin, before posting. I had forgotten how much of a pain that old browser is to use. Now I'm off to research CFW installations and how to not get b& like a moron. Really really wishing there was one MegaThread with all the information for brain dead people like myself.
