    Just asking
There is any problem with this external hard drive
WD My Book 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive WDBBGB0040HBK-NESN

Just plug and use? or there is any needed to format or create special partition, etc
    ntfs, fat32, exfat, etc o_O

Also, there is any problem if is a desktop type (3.5") or perfromance, because there is a few 4TB (2.5") about $25 cheaper like the Seagate 4TB Expansion Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0 Model STEA4000400 Black

    Thanks ;)

I have a Seagate 2TB Expansion, and I have one partition formatted in FAT32 (MBR, not GPT as the PS3 does not support it) and one in NTFS. The purpose of the NTFS partition is to get around the file size limit of 4GB that is imposed on the FAT32 file system, without the need for splitting files into 4GB chunks.

So while FAT32 is fine for a lot of tasks, NTFS is needed for say, playing ISO backups of PS3 game discs as the majority I've ripped are >4GB. Using a USB 3.0 drive will have no benefit in terms of performance, since the PS3 only supports up to USB 2.0.

I think I read somewhere on the forum about external HDDs having issues over a certain capacity. I know internal HDDs can have issues exceeding the 1.5TB area, but I also seem to recall reading something about external HDDs over a certain size as well.

Does not multiman have compatibility with ntfs?
If is correct, then there be no need to format in fat32, right?

Yes it does. multiMAN, webMAN MOD, ManaGunZ, IRISMAN all support NTFS. However, for installing packages from USB it needs to be in FAT32 (or on the internal HDD) as Package Manager does not read NTFS.

If prepNTFS 1.19 + webMAN MOD is used, it is possible to install Packages from NTFS almost as simple as install from FAT32 (specially the pkg files larger than 4GB).

most of the ready-to-use external hdd may have compatibility issues with ps3 (even on ps4)

you can easily fix this is you just buy your own laptop drive and slap it in on a generic hdd enclosure, that will surely works.
