So i am using multiman to load PS1 games on PS3 on my 1080p monitor. But games are starting with two black vertical borders on both sides of screen. Is there a way to make these games full screen?

Yeah but they look terrible as it's a stretched image. Simply press the PS button and there is an option to go full screen and smoothing. There is also a setting like this in the settings category if the XMB to make it applied with every game. When you want to adjust a setting you would be amazed it's in the settings category of the XMB 99% of the time. Just poking fun, happy gaming.

    Edit

I forgot there is also widescreen patches you can apply to the image with a hexeditor as well. Looks way better then the stretched image for most games.

Note this can be done for PS2 games as well that don't have widescreen and also a progressive scan patch.

try latest irisman,do initial setup,go to your game, press triangle go to video/others tab, switch to 16:9,turn on full screen and there you go.i'd suggest also to turn on smoothing but that's a personal preference.

edit: also check your display's scaling options.try first with auto setting of some sort and then depending on how is good integrated scaler is,custom can be good also.

It really depends on the game if it has static backgrounds etc. I prefer to go on a per game basis for PS1. PS2 I always patch 16.:9 and progressive scan via hex editor. Add smoothing to that and you gotta pretty nice looking game.

Well of course this just forces 480p and widescreen without stretching. Works great for anything that plays PS2 games as it's a "native" size and resolution though once patched.

i think it just scales a bit better especially on CRT's and performance is much more stable, especially on team silent games that the most important to me. :)

Thanks for replies. So i used PS button on controller and went to "full screen" but its not actually full screen. It stretches the picture but still part of black borders remain. Also some funny things happened while playing Tekken 2. There was flickering of picture with black polygons at random times. Don't know why?

Yes picture quality looked bad in stretched image compared to CRT video output. I have seen PS1 games on CRT and they look better compared to high resolution LED display.

if you'e turned on smoothing that means that your display's exceptionally bad at scaling.you can try to revert it to stock and custom picture size (or similary named) option in your display's menu, but don't expect miracles.

also check out 16:9 option in irisman, personally imho the best option for 16:9 displays,it even improves my oled's scaling and it's not that bad in case of my display.

edit: other than that for ps1 games there's emulation on the PC,moderate boost in resolution (to about 720p,i wouldn't go further than that as high resolution doesn't complement ps1 low polygon count and low res textures) and couple of nice soft filters and it looks quite nice.
