Here is the theory for a way to install HEN very simply skipping some of the steps like installing the HAN support files.

All I need is someone with a DNS server set up to do 3 redirects, I can host the files, and help with exact links if required.

    • Redirect Official PUP links to HFW PUP
    • Redirect Official manuals to dev_blind+pkg enabler
    • Redirect Photo Gallery pkg to the AIO package
Once these are redirected the steps to fully install HEN from OFW are as follows:
    • Change networks settings to the custom DNS server
    • Click system update to install HFW
    • Click manuals icon to enable HAN and dev_blind
    • Click on photo gallery icon to install the AIO HEN pkg

I have made special AIO HEN pkg that uses the content ID of the photo gallery package, and also includes the extra file needed from the HAN support files. Alternatively the video editor package can be used or even the PS store pkg most likely.

This is tested and it works 100% perfectly.

Anyone with a spare DNS server lying around want to host this and make it a reality? :)

This is probably possible with a proxy too, redirecting to local files for a 100% offline HEN install..

Hopefully someone here can do it, I don't mind hosting the files on my server, but I do not have a dedicated IP so can not do it fully, Also I do not know how to set up a DNS server myself :D

It's already been tested and works fine, but the DNS server used for the test was required for other things, so it was just a temporary test. Thanks to those guys for helping with that, I won't mention their names in case they do not want me to, but you know who you are. ;)

For install HEN with Offline dev_Blind icon in XMB, test this:
    1. Put all archive files in USB with your HEN Installer PKG.
    2. Install "HAN" with han_installer.html in ps3xploit site
    3. Select new icon in "Game" tab in XMB
    4. Install your "HEN Offline.pkg
    5. Reboot

Well adding icons to the XMB is no problem once package manager is installed, this is not about that. This is about slip-streaming the initial install.

I know, It's not that, you still need to install the HAN support files, so it does not change anything.

I wonder,is it possible for hen to be patched in a new update? I know han can be patched since a new fw install erases the pkg manager injected to the system files, but does hen work through the system files or the harddrive since it installs as a pkg?

Yes I agree. This just prevented the execution of the "Han Enabler & Mount dev_blind" without the execution of it on the site PS3Xploit. This allows you to save a little time ^^

Of course it can be patched, does not matter where you store the exploit.

I wonder if it's even possible to redirect where the update looks that way maybe you could get it to download the hfw instead of the official update?

It would be yes, with a proxy set up that redirects to a custom ps3-updatelist.txt that has a link to a PUP on local webserver, But if you already have the HFW PUP downloaded, then its a lot of hassle though just to avoid putting it on a USB stick.

Hello guys first of all thank you for all ur effort to this whole exploit thing.
i have an issue and i rlly hope someone can help me. My Usb ports are broken and i want Hfw because its requirment for a game called metal gear online. However the new dns method isnt working because i have a superslim ps3. Is there ANY other way into getting hfw from the ps3 itself basically? thanks for any answer...

I don't know if this work (never have tried this), but you could try copying the PS3UPDAT.PUP of HFW to /PS3/UPDATE in a CD or DVD.

If you decide to try, also put the PUP in /PS3_UPDATE. These are some of the paths that software_update_plugin.sprx check.

CD will work for most people, but the he will have the same issue as with online update (DNS/Proxy), 12GB Superslims are the same as NANDs, they wont allow the same version to install from the XMB.

That's why I suggest to use the CD or DVD... it should let re-install the same FW version from recovery menu. Otherwise I would have suggested to hijack the updatelist.txt with the proxy method, and modify the txt to download the HFW PUP from PC with miniweb or IIS.

The thing is, you need a working USB port for the controller to enter recovery.

Oh, I didn't know a working USB controller was required for the recovery... Thanks!
