    Hi everyone,

I am trying to run NTFS hard drive on ps3 so I can play movies larger than 4GB.

I tried to jailbreak, but every time it failed. Maybe my ps3 is unjailbreak!

    Here're the details:

    PS3 CECH-4001B 4.83

I think it is the super slim version.

Any way to play NTFS hard rive movies?

    plz help :(

    Thank you

CECH4000 are super slim models are are not CFW compatible, you cannot jailbreak them. The only option available for these models is HAN.

PS3s cannot use NTFS HDDs internal or external on HAN or standard. Only CFW compatible models can use NTFS external HDDs as they can install a homebrew package called prepNTFS to allow the PS3 to read the drive but not write to the drive.

For your movie files over 4GB I would suggest doing what I have done and that's to convert them to MP4 format as they are substantially smaller in size without compromising on quality of video and audio.

EDIT: And as you have updated to 4.83OFW you cannot use HAN until a new xpliot has been made as [email protected] patched one of the webkits used to trigger the xploit.

I have tried to convert movies using some software, non of them gave me the option to make the file less than 4GB. The best one for me yet is Handbreak.

What's your way to convert them without losing on the quality part?

    Thank you

Check out Universal Media Server, or alternatively Ps3MediaServer.

I use UMS to stream movies / tv shows to my ps3 from my computer. They are both relatively easy to set up, and support just about all video codec's (mkv / avi / etc.)

You don't need an active internet connection to use these either. So long as your ps3 and computer are connected to the same network, or alternatively you can connect the computer to the ps3 with an ethernet cable and set it up that way (requires some slight tinkering with IP addresses.)

I personally use DivX to covert my movies. Wont allow under 4GB files? that's strange, most of my films are either 720p MP4 (1GB + under) and 1080p MP4 (2GB and under) I have a few MKVs in 1080p but they are still under 4GB, about 3.5GB. You can see the difference in sizes. It all depends an the aspect ratio, video + audio Kbps and FPS. Try lowering them.

    I'll give you an example

    Source- Quicktime / MOV
Video Codec- h264 (level 4.0) 1280x532p (aspect ratio)
    Framerate: 29.97 - 60Hz max
    Video biterate- 2500 kb/s max
Audio codec - AAC, 48000 hz, stereo
    Audio bitrate- 150kb/s 200kb/s

Total file size 1GB perfect video and audio.

I have 1080p movies, so when I convert them in the software I choose Playstation 3. They come about to 5GB!

There are new jailbreaks out so I would check that, but afaik you cannot attach a ntfs hdd on a unmodded console. I have a original fat 60gb that I have just updated to latest Rebug cfw and I run Movian and that reads ntfs hdd no problems.
