it's worth mentioning that these databases contain container ids for dlc found in bundles, so they may not catch everything. I'm not sure if the bundle id's r included, but these r taken directly from microsoft's servers. :)

do u mean fatx? that's what the xbox 360 format is called. I don't think I've heard of x360, so I tried looking it up and found nothing. u might try fatxplorer. u have to pay money for that app though, so another one is xplorer360. both apps can format drives without the 360. I'm using a WD hdd for my external (forgot what I have for the internal though), so I've never tried a seagate hdd with the system.

u can connect that hdd via sata on the pc or via the transfer cable. that should be compatible. fatxplorer should pick up either.

btw, @Joonie , fatxplorer was capable of formatting a 2TB external hdd before Microsoft's update allowed for that. that was update kernel 16xxx I believe. I never tried it myself since ur stuck with fatx which equates to several container files on the hdd. I did try it on the system though which is how I know that. it should work with ur seagate hdd. r u having problems with it? the reason I never tried the fatxplorer method is that it costs money. I think the dev's name is something like "supermodder." he'll send u a license once u pay like $30 from what I recall. there's a free trial, but I don't know how much it allows u to do. the other apps for formatting hdds may or may not allow for larger than 500GB-1TB. u can use up to 2TBs with the 360's internal hdd.

In the middle of formatting HDD thru fatxplorer, it asks for security sector to be written in the hdd. most tutorials are made for WD HDDs.

btw, I've done this with a nonjtag system before. it's not too difficult. u just need the right brand for it though. when it was just the scorpio line, u had ur pick of like 3 hdds. I think I still have the hdd actually or used it with the ps3 when I upgraded to 1TB internal on the 360.

I've done WD once when I had my old 360, 320GB HDD worked just fine, back then I just used a hex editor and manually wrote the sectors from 16-22.

I have couple Toshiba HDDs and Seagate HDDs, they don't work with that method.

that could be the reason for the restriction with hdd hackr. I don't know y it doesn't work with other drives either. I exclusively buy WD drives actually, but I do have a hitachi and one or two seagate hdds. I'm trying to think back about opening those 360 enclosures - which drives do I remember seeing? I'm thinking I saw a toshiba in one of them, but I can't quite remember for sure. it could be that the WD drives r just easier to hack, so devs/hackers stuck with those. however, they were restricted to just the scorpio line for a while, but every added drive just so happens to be a WD model. sorry I couldn't help u further.

edit: btw, fatxplorer will most likely have the same restriction if it's even able to detect the drive as incompatible. it probably won't work in the system.

Fatxplorer can detect my modified HDD without an issue, it only checks for the security sector range that works on WD. it's just the XBOX360 that doesn't recognize. I think the sector location could vary.

Btw, yes M$ uses various brands of HDDs, seen Hitachi and Samsung. But there aren't many sector files available dumped from the retail HDDs

maybe the security sector for WD was found via an exploit? whoever discovered it may have had a WD scorpio drive as a legit hdd from M$. that may have lead to discovering the security sector of other WD drives assuming that they're different. ur probably right about the security sector range being the issue since as u said it doesn't work with a seagate drive. I'm sure there r others, but the exploit may have only worked with WD; either that or there's a lack of interest. I haven't looked into the xbox 360 scene since I left about three or four years ago, so I'm unfamiliar with new hacks/methods. however, most was already known about the xbox 360 when I left, so maybe most of the devs left or have jumped on board with the xbox one?

I've read this several times, but I'm still not convinced by this.

@Joonie , were u able to get that hdd to work? personally, I'd just use that as an external hdd since 16xxx added 2TB support externally. btw, the usb ports on the 360 r powerful enough to power an unpowered hdd (2TBs) if that hdd is unpowered. :)

    edit: that's without a y cable btw.

Nah, I didn't install RGH, so no luck. So yes USB drives are a better option indeed.

I wouldn't attempt it since there's a risk of destroying the hdd. I skimmed some of the responses, and it looked like several people encountered problems trying to do this.
