Ive been out of the PSP Scene for a while, but i do remember back in the day, you would have to convert your PlayStation Backups into eBOOT Format, to be playable on the PlayStation Portable, so i am sure the method didn´t changed since 2010, i know Adrenaline only accepts PBP Format for PlayStation One Classics,as a normal PSN Format, same as the PlayStation3.

Nope gotta convert to PBP still and I don't think that will ever change. Sony wrote the code for the PS1 emulation and it isn't powerful enough for a homebrew app to emulate them I'm afraid.

Technically inside PBP archive there is disc image in PSAR format which is encrypted and compressed disc image which You can i.e decrypt, decompress, burn on CD-R and put into PSX with modchip to be played. So, the reason why POPS doesn't support i.e *.iso is they didn't want to... for other reasons. ;)

If you were on 6.60 PRO C-something (I don't remember), you could play them in ISO. I did that myself, for example. But on 6.61 I think you can't.

I don't think so, at least I never heard about it. Only PSP games can be read from *.iso, *.cso, *.jso or *.dax. ISO is even bad choice for PSX because doesn't contain i.e CDDA. Even if someone hacked POPS in such way to bypass encryption and packing, still it is not the way which Sony designed, which implicated that they didn't want such functionality.
