OK so I downloaded this software that acted sort of like psninja (it was the old PSN logo but green). I made a mistake during the process and now my PS3 can't get past the startup. Anything I can do?

That would be PSN Patch. Enter Recovery Mode and re-install your CFW. It most likely be just a soft-brick rather than a full perma-brick.

Its doesn't I have used it for years and never had this happen. So something isn't right here, but a quick CFW install will solve this issue.

Things can clash say if the OP had the SEN enabler plugin install, last year there was a user that did exactly that... had SEN install and then tried to use PSN Patch... you use on or the other not both.

Or its possible the PKG got corruped during download, this is why its important to check any MD5 or SHA-1 or both hash checks given by Dev's on there release's if there is any.

There's not much info to go off here so I gave the quick basic fix.

When I use PSNPatch I only ever press Triangle or R1 (I think) for Install Rap/Edat.

If you use X or [ ] -- I believe that will attempt patches not possible on HFW/HEN and cause the softbrick you have.
