This needs to happen. For now working title is "PS3 Capture Project"

    Basic premise is:

    Capture packets from PSN.
    Capture packets from games.
    Decrypt SSL and reverse protocol.
    Create our own PSN.

    Reason:

PS3 PSN may not last forever. Some games have already shut down. Others are scheduled. The entire network will close at some point. These resources will be required to revive it.

There's been an active discussion on Discord about this for the last few hours...

I can be a maintainer and contributing developer for this project. But my knowledge of PS3 Internals and PSN network is not enough to be 'Lead' on this project.

Games Shutting down soon! Capture now!

Agreed, this needs to happen. As someone who will (eventually) but running some of these servers, it would be good to know what games I might have to prepare for and might have the space to have.

It reminds me of a similar project,
Back in the day Assassin's Creed II for the PC had a always online DRM,
Someone managed to emulate the Uplay servers and the Assassin's Creed II servers,
    and modified the client.
That way you could play Assassin's Creed II offline and choose whatever Uplay user name you want to play with :D

But a lot of people used it for pirating the game :(

The P2P based games where the game is the server and the client will be the easiest to revive. All those need is usually an "auth" server and a "match making" server that lists players and game sessions. Auth server may hold stats too.

Games that will require their own dedicated server should be spun off into their own projects. For "instance based" games like Destiny or Diablo III where many players connect to a large server.

Great idea as this exact same thing has been happening with many systems. The DreamPi project has really taken off in the last few years and will be nice to see this for the PS3 as well.

akamai is a company that offers a bunch of cloud and server solutions for big and small companies,
They use p2p with their cloud solutions, exactly like in a torrent.

A lot of programs and applications come with "Akami Netsession",some games too,
This feature allows akami to use your machine for seeding the program or game you downloaded.
This is the torrent like solution they use.

They also offer servers that are optimized for MMOs and other types of online features for video games.

Looks like $ony likes to use the sevices of Akami,Akami is also responsible for the security of it's servers,
Making it a perfect company for outsourcing servers.

Akamai is just where they've pointed it via a CNAME record (that just tells a human readable domain to go to another human readable domain)

If we are the DNS, We would send that request to us instead.

In that capture, one.one.one.one, 1.1.1.1 and dns.google, 8.8.8.8 are my DNS servers. We would likely be sending those requests to a community run DNS server for this project. At least that's the easiest and most direct way I can think to do it...
