    Following the previous update of PS3 ISO Tools that developer Rudi Rastelli drops on the community a few weeks ago comes a new update with v2.1. In the last update the developer swapped Estwalds "makeps3iso" with Cobra's "genps3iso" to give the application ODE support. Now the dev has brought back the "makeps3iso" by allowing CFW to user either ISO creation Tool. ODE user's should use [break]ddd[/break] "genps3iso", Also in this update there is a Patch ISO function will be disabled for CFW under 4.20 and also various bug fixes have been made see more on these changes and even more jammed in to this update from the developer's Changelog found below.

      Thanks [MENTION=108]Rudi Rastelli[/MENTION] great set of tools that keeps getting better and better with your efforts

      I guess I'm sort of stuck in the past because I only use the folder format for my backups. What are the advantages (if any) to the iso format?

      - No need for "BD MIRROR" on certain games. BD Mirror moves the /PS3_GAME to the root of disk and if the manager does not return it to the correct place you can get your game corrupted.
      - Files are read/transfer faster, specially on USB. A single physical file is opened, vs. hundreds or thousands of files on JB format.
      - It's easier to test the integrity of your game (just get the MD5 of your ISO, instead of MD5 of thousands of files)
      - Most managers support ISO via Cobra or Mamba
      - No need to cache files to play games with large files >4GB on FAT32
      - PS3 games are supported only in ISO format on NTFS drives

      It also has disadvantages:
      - It takes time and require lot of free hdd space to convert your all games
      - If you made a split ISO to make it fit on FAT32, you have to rebuild the ISO to make it work on NTFS or with netsvr
      - Once you created the ISO, it's hard to add files to PS3_EXTRA

      My suggestion: convert only the problematic games (the ones that require BD Mirror or that only work as ISO), the games with thousands of files and the ones that have large files.

      they transfer alot faster because it is one single file. and from what i understand there is better compatibility with some games.

      Thanks for the info. In 3 years I still haven't found a backup that didn't work for me in the standard format, but plenty of them had to be split for my fat32. So I can play backups from an NTFS drive, but they have to be in iso format?

      That makes sense.

      What kind of stuff can you do with the PS3_EXTRA folder? I've been using CFW for quite some time but have never really came across anything. Now I'm interested.

      Nice, I have been still using 1.983b.

      If ODE user should use genps3iso, then since people on CFW have a choice, is one method more reliable than the other for CFW users?

      1st off ODE users SHOULD/MUST use 'genps3iso', because i've been told that ISOs created with 'makeps3iso' does not work for them... so atm if u select ODE as ur system in PS3 ISO TOOLS main window 'makeps3iso'-option is grayed out.
      Can't confirm this myself because i don't have an ODE. Are there some ODE-users out there who can confirm this ?

      Regarding the decision between 'makeps3iso' and 'genps3iso' for CFW-users i have to go somewhat further into details:
      While testing with 'genps3iso' i've run across a strange thing i still don't know what i should think about... PS3 ISO TOOLS uses cli-version of 7zip to count number of files and folders inside the ISO and compares it to number of files and folders in source-game-folder as a simple check if everything is ok with the created ISO. On all games i've tried so far number of files were equal, but on a lot of games number of folders were different.
      So... i've opened and/or extraced some of those ISOs with windows-version of 7zip and i've found some folders have empty mirrors 1 level deeper into subfolder structure of the ISO(hard to describe as a non-native-english-speaker :o).
      Now for the really strange things... If i open and/or extract such an ISO with WinRAR mirror-folders are not there and everything looks like it should. Extracting ISOs with the 'Extract ISO(s)'-function of PS3 ISO TOOLS, which uses @estwalds 'extractps3iso', also gives no sign of a problem. And also, which is most important, ISOs work well on PS3 !

      So... what's the conclusion of all this ? Does 'genps3iso' has a bug ?... Or 7zip ?... or both ?... I really don't know. But, as stated above, it will work without a problem on PS3 as far as i can tell and that's what counts from my point of view.

      Regards
      Rudi

      Hello Rudi,

      First of all thank you very much for your excellent work :) I have a quick question I am experimenting with wine on linux and suphp in order to add new functionalities to my PS3 Games Manager app.

      I can manage to run the following command successfully using wine:

      [email protected]: wine genps3iso_v2.5.exe /mnt/nas1/USENET/RAW/Angry.Birds.Trilogy/BLES-01732 /mnt/nas1/USENET/PS3/Angry_Birds_Trilogy_[BLES01732].iso

      It successfully generates the ISO file but when I launch it on the PS3, as I expected it, webMAN stuck on a black screen.

      Using Process Explorer (on Windows) I have analyzed the process genps3iso_v2.5.exe launched by PS3 ISO TOOLS GUI and I have noticed the parameters passed on the command line for are different and are regarding the conversion in progress:

      ".\Tools\genps3iso_v2.5.exe" "Z:\nfs-share\USENET\RAW\Angry.Birds.Trilogy\CONVERSION_IN_PROGRESS" "Z:\nfs-share\USENET\PS3\PS3ISO\CONVERSION_IN_PROGRESS.iso"

      What I am trying to achieve is to integrate the creation of ISO files directly in PS3 Games Manager and in order to do this I would need to find out what is the sequence of commands (in the tools directory of PS3 ISO TOOLS) that are launched in order to create an ISO from the game directory that works with a PS3 CFW REBUG (4.78 in my case).

      After I will have figured that out I can integrate the tools launching them from wine on Linux from the web interface of PS3 Games Manager.

      Would you be so nice mate to help me with the commands sequence ?

      Thank you very much in advance Rudi :)

      Iirc you will get better compatibility using makeps3iso.exe for cfw than using genps3iso_v2.5.exe that is tool for ode users.

      Hi Kozarovv,

      I have tried both and they both work with CFW I had no idea makeps3iso is better good to know !
      If I understand correctly from your post in order to make an ISO from the CLI without using the PS3 ISO TOOLS GUI it would be just enough to ran makeps3iso.exe /path/to/game_folder /path/to/destination_folder/GAME.iso ?

      If so I am wondering what are all the other executable in the Tools directory for .. I am looking forward to hearing from Rudi about it :)

      Thanks a lot for your answer I am going to try to make one the way you said and launch it on the PS to see if it works fine !

      @kozarovv needs developer status to be added to his mod user group. I've thought that for a long time, 'cause he knows his stuff. :)

      Ok I have tried generating an ISO from the command line using makeps3iso.exe.

      My firmware is: 4.78 CEX Cobra: 7.2

      When I launch the game it says the game data is corrupted. I have tried disabling and enabling the external USB game data but the result does not change.

      That means PS3 ISO TOOLS does some more operation on the ISO file and it is not just passing source folder and destination folder to makeps3iso.exe,

      I wait for the answer of Rudi he should know exactly what I miss.

      Lol

      I understand that game is working using PS3 ISO Tools and not working using standalone converters, both when using WINE?

      Try add -p0 parametr.

      Code:
      MAKEPS3ISO (c) 2013, Estwald (Hermes)
      Usage:

          makeps3iso -> input datas from the program
          makeps3iso <pathfiles>                         -> default ISO name
          makeps3iso <pathfiles> <ISO file or folder>    -> file or folder destination
          makeps3iso -p0 <pathfiles> <ISO file or folder> -> file or folder destination (frontend)
          makeps3iso -s <pathfiles>                      -> split files to 4GB
          makeps3iso -s <pathfiles> <ISO file or folder> -> split files to 4GB
          makeps3iso -p0 -s <pathfiles> <ISO file or folder> -> split files to 4GB (frontend)

      Makeps3iso by Estwald is used in Irisman (& forks) on the PS3 & from experience it makes perfectly compatible iso images.

      I missed that post somehow..

      extractps3iso.exe - For extracting iso to folder
      genps3iso_v2.5.exe and makeps3iso.exe - For making iso
      msvcr90.dll - needed for genps3iso msvcr120 probably for gui
      resign_eboot.exe, resprx.exe and respu.exe (last one i'm not sure) - is for resigning games to other fw version (eg. 3.55)
      7z is just 7zip
      fixps3iso - No idea, but there is source code available in to pack.
      selfinfo - is to get self... info.. :) Like key revision, fw version, app ver, etc.
      Make_npdata is a tool to encrypt/decrypt/bruteforce EDAT/SDAT files from PS3 games.

      Is not 100% answer, but only what i think. Best wait for @Rudi Rastelli answer.
