Hi, yesterday i turn on my ps3 40gb after 8 years that was affected by YLOD, and unexpectedly it stayed on for about an hour and half, then i turned it off. The fan since i turned it on was at the max speed and never slow down, sadly i can't trying using a game because i take the BD reader in another ps3, what happened? What can i do?

You need to delid the CELL, If the YLOD is overheating related. And if you also have problems to booting up the console, then you'll need to replace the NEC TOKIN capacitors.

Yes, the YLOD was overheating related and i don't have problems booting up, but now i see by webman that now in the XMB the CPU is 72° and GPU 40°. Now that i have a BDEMU cfw i could try too boot a game and see the temperature. btw what do you mean by "delid the CELL" ?

32c difference between RSX & CELL. So CELL at 72c, is fan running at max speed? If so, then do not test it on game or it may push CELL beyond 90c and damage the CELL permanently.

You need to delid your CELL.

You need to take off the IHS on the CELL processor. That's very dangerous for the entire motherboard, as you commit a mistake, then the PS3 is dead. Watch many, many videos of how to do it, for example NSC modz is a good modder that explain a lot how to do it safetly. I also could delid a few weeks ago a few CELLs using just the metal sheet of a calendar, so there's no need to use always complicated tools.

Meh, that's very normal after 8 years from now will you be older or younger?

according to webman the fan is at 20% of speed but at the same time it's very loud so i'm honestly confused, also because the console spits out cold air from the back

thanks, i'm gonna check some videos about it

there is a misunderstanding because i meant that my ps3 in the 2012 was dead by YLOD and it won't boot up, now after 8 years it could stay on in the XMB without problems

Uninstall webman (make sure doing it correctly by reverting it back to syscon first in webman settings, then type "http://127.0.0.1/delete.ps3?uninstall" in your browser). After that you install CFU. Note that you must start CFU manually at every startup from XMB.

Now you should check Temps & fan speed of CELL on CFU. Fan speed at 20% is barely audible, the fan should not be loud at this low speed. So you first need to find out correct fan speed & Temps.

30+ degree difference is bad. 10-12 would be ideal. my ps3 runs at around 58-65 C with about a five degree difference. the 10 degree difference is what I learned with the 360, and I'm pretty sure that that's true of the ps3 as well.

if you have problems with the fan speed being too loud, try using surround sound speakers or a sound bar. I usually don't hear mine unless it's quiet or the tv is low on volume. I don't normally use my speakers though, because I don't want to wake someone up. if I use them, it has to be with the sub woofer off.

Well, i'm not annoyed by the loudness of the fan but instead I'm worried about the speed that's looks like it's 100% since i boot it up. I have to check more precisely because webman infos looks incorrect

personally, I wouldn't turn it on 'til it's fixed, because you could be damaging the motherboard by doing that.

I don't think that CELL 72c can damage the motherboard. Yes, temps of 72c are undesirable on idle XMB. These Temps can easily to go 90c during game play. So i wouldn't recommend trying to launch any game on this PS3. I think he should stay on XMB & find out its correct Temps & fan speed on CFU. Also don't keep this PS3 powered on at max fan speed for too long. Just power it on to do some quick tests. And always start your test from ambient temperature (starting PS3 after 3-4 hours of last shutdown).

Though its pretty clear that 32c difference between CELL & RSX means delidding CELL is the only option.

@sandungas Where is that thread on CELL delidding that we had last year? I can't find it anywhere.

I mean that that difference in temps suggests something is very wrong. I know this can easily happen with the 360, probably ps3 as well, but letting the system get too hot will warp the motherboard. by the time you get rrod, or in this case ylod, damage may have already been done. I would not even let it sit idle.

Okay i have just used CFU and i took two photos, the first about 2 minutes after i booted up the ps3 (0x54 spped) , and another one after 10 minutes (0x78 speed).
Honestly i can't figured out myself the fan speed and i didn't want to mess around
I also noticed that the red led started flashing when i booted CFU, and continued also when i was back in XMB, is that related to CFU?
i also have a video of the flashing led (where you can hear the fan noise).
i wanted to show you the photos and the video, but i don't know how i could do that
