Yes, I know, we are late again. But trust me, this last Progress Report for 2018 has "packed a punch". Not only that both performance and graphical issues has been improved from many AAA Game Titles, but also that in conclusion, the Team behind this wonderful Project has improved many other things as well, such like a better Controller Support (including better Mouse Support) and a (again) revamped Compatibility List by removing duplicates and other mistakes, which will be detailed down below. This means also that the Announcement from the November 2018 Progress Report with having now more than >3000 Game Titles on their list is now redundant, since they was able to find so many duplicates that the new List from December lists 100 Game Titles less now. But don't worry, even with 100 Game Titles less, the Team was still able to improve so many Game Titles, that the "Playable" Category has been improved compared to November 2018. So with now exactly 2938 Game Titles listed on their Compatibility List, it's just a question of time when they will reach the >3000 Game Titles mark again.
Progress Report: December 2018
God of War 3 was one of the major AAA Titles which saw major improvements in both Performance and Graphical issues!
This month saw improvements to various aspects of the emulator and the compatibility list is no exception. At the start of 2018, the compatibility list was revamped to allow us to merge multiple game IDs for the same game into one single entry. This helped reduce duplication of entries and enhance the quality of the statistics we provide. While we were able to merge IDs of different regions together, due to the way the compatibility list database was structured, titles with multiple IDs from the same region could not be merged and hence were shown as separate entries. Not wanting to leave the job half done, AniLeo refactored the compatibility list once again this month to now allow us to merge IDs from the same region as well!
With this change, we can eliminate unnecessary duplication entirely and significantly improve the quality of our statistics to properly represent the amazing progress made with the emulator. If you take a look at the metrics for this month, you will notice that the number of games has decreased across all categories. This is solely due to the above mentioned revamp of the compatibility list. However, if you take a look at the compatibility history page, we can see that the Playable category has increased by over 15 titles and Ingame category has increase by over 30 new titles. The nothing category also reduced by one, bringing the total to just 3 titles!

BGFTP v1.0 (by GrapheneCt): Background FTP server for transfering file to your VitaDeveloper GrapheneCt has released BGFTP, is a new FTP server that works in the background. It does not matter if your in-game or sleep mode or hanging around the Live Area, The FTP transfers are always working while the developer says this will not impact any performance of the running task, but does add a warning that transfer can be slowed down since they are running on Reserved System Cores and will be knocked to low priority on those reserves, but nonetheless a great way to transfer files from your PC (or other devices servicing as a FTP server) to either your homebrew enabled PS Vita or the PlayStation TV (aka vita tv).Continue reading

RetroArch (PS4) R3 Released: New libretro Cores Added (Dramcaset / Jaguar / ScummVM /) + Source CodeFollowing the initial release of R1 and the followup of R2, developer @OsirisX has just released R3 for the PS4 Port of RetroArch with new core being added, various bug fixes to go along and also a release of the promised source code is included as well.. The new update provides ps4 support for Flycast (Sega Dreamcast), Bettle PSX, Virtual Jaguar, ScummVM, Stella-2014 (Atari 2600), Vectrex and SameBoy are the new cores included (emulation like dreamcast is experimental and many games have speed issues) in this release This update is based on RetroArch v1.8.4 and the Core Updater has been enabled, multi-controller Support has been added (up to 4 can be used), previous R1/R2 only one controller was supported. Also some cores that need have added support for keyboard and mouse controls. This port has evolve quite nicely and should be even better with now the source code release and likely will becomes part of the official release as this is still considered an "unofficial" port, but likely to become the official port.
Also the developer has created a Core Updater, which provides another method to update the cores. It help keeps the main pkg lite and you can also download indvidual cores via RetroArch itself as that bug of downloading cores has been fixed.
