    Hey guys.
Need some help which is really doing my head in.
I recently got out my old crt tv, light guns, and PS2 with Free McBoot v1.8
I'm having massive trouble putting the PS1 games on to DVD for my PS2.
I have looked everywhere and have found that apparently the best way to play these PS1 games on PS2 is to put them to DVD. So I use IsoBuster to extract the .bin files. Then use DVD ScanLite 3.7 to scan all the extracted files in DVD mode. Then add a dummy file named z.z (so it sits lasts in all the extracted files) to make the overall size greater than 1.4GB. Then I use ImgBurn to create a .img file of the game (original extracted .bin files plus dummy file). Then use esr patcher on the newly created iso. Then use ImgBurn to burn the DVD.
It never works. The disc never launches and freezes. I got it to work for PS2 ROM games that are under 700mb cd size like Virtua Cop. But does not work for any of the PS1 games.
Here is a link to the tutorial I went off:

The thing I have found is that when I initially use IsoBuster to extract the files from the .bin image, I nearly always get errors saying there are sectors that can't be read and asks to ignore, retry or quit. Neither of these options seems to work.
But if I try to extract the files the same way using UltraIso or CDmage, the files extract with no errors. But the resulting burnt DVD still does not work.
I am using DVD-R's. From what I can tell I'm doing everything correctly.
One game in articular that always has error read messages in Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas.
Any help would be truly appreciated guys.
    Losing my mind over this.
    Cheers

You can't play PS1 games directly from DVD media. Maybe using POPS emulator, but this is far away from thing that you are trying to do now. Also i'm not even sure that POPS support CDVD drive.

I suggest you to use POPS emu with USB, HDD, or by ethernet to play PSX games on PS2. Different situation is when you have installed modchip, but i'm assuming that you don't have one.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Kozarovv.
I've read on numerous forums people being able to play ps1 roms on their ps2. So what is this guy achieving in the youtube video if you can't play ps1 games on ps2?? And why do then most original ps1 games work on ps2??
My ps2 is only soft modded with Free McBoot by the way. Not hard chipped.
Could you possibly point me in the right direction to a link with more about POPS emu?? Is it difficult to install?? Do games play ok from USB or HD?? Pretty new to all of this so I don't have much of an idea.
    Cheers.

Guy on video is converting PS2 CD to PS2 DVD.

Because PS2 is backward compatible with original PSX discs.

So you need to use software emulation like POPS as far as i know.

I can only throw here those link, someone else need to explain this better. I never used POPS loader, last time i used PSX software emulator on PS2, POPS wasn't even available, and reversed.

PS1-games only work either as CD or as image via an emulator.

Edit: Ooops... Autocorrection made 'PS2' out of 'PS1'.

If you wanna burn ps1 games and play on ps2 then burn it on normal cd-r with lowest possible speed. 10x or 16x is fine. dont burn ps1 games on dvd they will not work.

CD games would works in some kind of ESR equivalent if someone would implement old idea of CDX/UMCDR. But currently, there is no way to do it on FMCB other than:
    1. original disc with proper region,
    2. properly patched copy moved to DVD (patched not only by ESR DP but also all media flags, LBA tables checks etc.),
    3. disc image from USB/IDE/SMB

PSX games will never work from DVD, at least not from another fork (which doesn't exist) of POPS or PS2PSXe.
