The 4.84 Custom Firmware landscape for the PS3 is certainly taken shape here in the last few days as we have seen multiple developer's rejoice and not only update things but progressing the PS3 scene as well. We seen Team Rebug drop 4.84 REBUG LITE edition & 4.84 FERROX Cobra cfw's that had the Cobra v7.55 payload, but as Team Rebug member @Joonie was finishing up the Rebug Lite release/testing and was about about to release, developer @habib (another team rebug member) was working on advancing the Cobra payload with some new features that would mature the payload to Cobra v8.00 (updated v8.01 see below) and in this 4.84 STARBUGED COBRA (v8.00) CFW. This blend of Starbucks + Rebug = Starbuged and not only does this CFW come equipped with the new Cobra v8.00 features but also contains all the feature that REBUG Lite edition contains as well.

The Cobra v8.00 payload see's a few changes highlighted by the ability to run a payload with kernel privileges in a way like those familiar with the PS Vita scene see with skprx, same concept but now with the PS3. Currently only a single payload is supported at a time but habib says he may increase this into the future. Also v8.00 should improve boot time dramatically according the developer as there is no longer a Stage 1 at boot up, Also note that this CFW has Cobra enabled by default (in contrast to rebug lite, needs to be turned on). Additional details about this CFW release can be seen below.

One more thing I forgot to tell, you can read pad etc anytime, in game or whatsoever. No longer you have to load vsh for the plugin. You can read whenever you want whatever you want, apply patches to any process using function copy_to_user

Oh boy oh boy, his is back!
I don't f*cking know what I'm talking about, but that kernel privileges is releated to some rumor a few months ago (maybe years)? That one wich appers on the PSDevWiki since september 2018 (i don't have the link right now). That would be awesome for non-compatible cfw.

Not to go up in FW versions but its always good practise to have it enabled just in case you want to go back down for whatever reason.

Hello friend, I'm having trouble choking on FMVS in PS1 games in ISO format

I can solve this problem by disabling the Cobra through the toolbox

      Very strange this ..

Another bonus to QA flagging is you get access to debug settings menu when you do the button combo, one of the best features there is System Update Debug, which allows you to store 20 PUPs on dev_hdd0 for quick and easy FW changing. Also every time you update from USB it will ask if you want to keep a copy on hdd.
    13. Cypher_CG89
      Cypher_CG89
20? I had in my head it was only 10 you could keep on the HDD lol.
    14. DeViL303
      DeViL303
Yeah its 20, what I really like about it is you can name the PUPs any way you like, even with spaces etc. So its a nice way to keep PUPs organised all in one folder (dev_hdd0/updater/01/). Also they install quicker as the preparing stage is really quick, and it doesn't ask for confirmation after preparing and rebooting.

Yeah I have 10 atm all named to what they are, mainly REBUG but also other's, now I think I will add 10 more lol, Its a hell of a lot easier to switch this way when your testing things.

So guys i accidentally updated to 4.84. I know i am screwed until, some genius figures out how to fix the world.
Firstly i am a total noob thus 4.84 upgrade.
1.Can i still backup my games that i use to play via multi man.
      2. If i where to start from scratch/new hdd. can i retrieve my games via restore
      3. Starting from scratch will i end up at 4.84 or what version will it be

      Thanks

      @psykosis ...... another "accident"....`\:confused:/`

1.= Nope > All the patches to the CoreOS and others needed to make this work have been wiped by installing OFW.
2.= Nope > Using the restore function form Recovery would format the HDD.
3.= Yes you will still be on 4.84 OFW no matter what you do, the PS3 keeps a record of what FW version was installed last.

The only way to get CFW back is with a Hardware Flasher, depending id your PS3 is a NAND or NOR model depends on which one you need.

NAND = Teensey (can also do NOR)
NOR = E3 (MOstly widely used for NOR)

NAND you woulds also need to use FlowRebuilder as you have to dump both the NAND chips and merge the dumps together before patching then split them back into 2 before flashing them to the PS3. NOR is just a single chip to dump. Always make backups of the good dumps in case something were to go wrong.

The one bit of good news I can tell is that @littlebalup has just updated the PS3 Dump Checker Tools with a 4.84 NoFSM Ferrox Based patch so you can install 4.84 CFW straight after flashing the patched dump to your PS3, no more need to downgrade to 3.55 to install CFW.
