The PS3 has seen a new release involving a fork of a popular emulation project. Following the work of @CaptainCPS-X 's Final Burn Alpha Retro Loader (FBA RL) (a fork of the FBA libretro core w/ custom frontend), psx-place member @Crystal has forked the homebrew project with the release of FBNeo RL. While the original release for CPS-X contained a modified version of fb_aplha (libretro Core), this version from Crystal now contains the recently released FBNeo (FinalBurn NEO) libretro core. Libretro is describing this core as a blend of "Final Burn Alpha and old versions of MAME". If you have used the FBA RL before, now the biggest difference in this new fork will be the addition of some MAME support. Also, Crystal has made some other enchantments and changes listed below to fit the new core. Checkout this latest emulation release on a homebrew enabled console such as Custom Firmware (CFW) enabled PS3 or a PS3HEN powered PS3 for those console that can not install CFW,.
Update (FBNEO PLUS RL): Now developer @Crystal has integrated Ole's MAME 0.125 emulator into this frontend. See update tab below or the link in the update labeled below:
FBNeo RL (Retro Loader)
As tribute of work's @CaptainCPS-X i have updated/upgrated FBAlpha RL to FBNeo RL
- New libretro core: Final Burn Neo v.0.2.97.44;
- Up to 6166 games recognized;
- Added "display clone games" option;
- Updated snaps;
- Added original manuals by CpatainCPS (PS button) (maybe if someone has original sources was better, i havent found them);
- Arcade games pack synced with FinalBurn Neo v0.2.97.44 (ClrMame Pro XML).dat;
I'm working to put all changes into a github fork.
Final Burn NEO RL becomes multi core.... welcome to Final Burn NEO Plus RL!!!!
Added core Mame 0.125 by Ole to use FB NEo Plus RL as frontend of Ole's Core, to add Midways games compatibility and, if you want it, to play some games with the secondary core to improve their playability.
Mortal Combat I, II, 3, Ultimate Mortal Combat 3 and Rampage are started directly with Mame 0.125,
regardless of their location on the file system.
To play games using Mame 0.125 core, put those roms into a directory named MAME125 and set it in a Roms PATH of OPTIONS LIST. For example:
- ROMs PATH #1: /dev_hdd0/ROMS/fba
- ROMs PATH #2: /dev_hdd0/ROMS/MAME125
- etc etc
- Added DISPLAY CLONE GAMES Option;
- Added freeware unibios roms up to v3.3 for neo Geo games;
- Added freeware Alien Arena game (The original ROM images for Alien Arena (c) 1985 Duncan Brown have been made available for free, non-commercial use. Authorization from Duncan Brown);
- Added the return to the game list when you close a core;
In the next episode: Upgrade to Retroarch 1.8.4 (or better) layer

[UPDATE 4] PS3 Toolset by bguerville: A powerful collection of tools fueled by new PS3 exploitUpdate (4) Now supporting 4.86 Fully & Issue fixed with NAND console's in rare situations
You may recall a recent article revealing a few exclusive screenshots of bguerville's latest project, now the time has come to introduce the next evolution in PS3 Jailbreaking solutions. The PlayStation 3 Toolset by @bguerville is a new suite of tools, built upon a new PS3 exploitation framework & fueled by a new exploit discovered on the PS3 by the developer. The new exploit (and the toolset project as a whole) is compatible with all PS3 models running 4.82 - 4.86 OFW/HFW/CFW
While ps3xploit team member's @habib continued research and development of PS3HEN for nonCFW models with assistance from @esc0rtd3w, @bguerville meanwhile was working on his own research and developing other tools and exploits as you will see with this new PlayStation 3 Toolset, which thorough testing was conducted by @esc0rtd3w (whom we recently interviewed). All the team of talented devs have done some amazing work in the scene in recent years with all the PS3Xploit projects and that trend continues with this release.
The PS3 toolset is a project that @bguerville has been working on for some time,
the developer gave us a brief timeline of events since the Ps3Xploit Tools 2.0 framework (flash writer and dumper(s)) that led to this new release (see the timeline section).Continue reading

Here is v3 of the latest PS3 Hack to hit the PS3 Scene with the recent release of PS3HEN. This exploit for nonCFW console's provides homebrew support and a number of Custom Firmware intangibles for those console that can not install a traditional CFW, with those being lat production PS3 Slim models and all of the SuperSlim Consoles. While this is a tremendous release and breakthrough the information behind PS3HEN has been lacking and has served more questions then answers that could be provided. This is due in the way this was delivered and presented. We paused the reporting this on the frontpage until we were pleased with the documentation. So we took it upon ourselves to get the ball rolling on a new PS3HEN F.A.Q. detailing various aspects and info that will be useful for PS3HEN user's. Also we have started forming the PS3HEN Homebrew & Plugin Compatibility Chart
