Well I reported earlier this week famed Vita hacker Yifan Lu released Netcheck Bypass that allowed certain apps or games to be used again like Vita Media Server. It did not however allow one to use PS4 Link on your system. While the theory was it was a "token" used to activate this it seems that simply was not the case.

Well now the hacker has written up a nice little guide on how to use this feature again with a little work on the end users side. It should be noted the Netcheck Bypass can still be used to bypass the annoying nag screen prompting for PSN sign in with this guide

Now if you had previously linked your system while HENkaku still had PSN access you don't need this except maybe the Netcheck Bypass to get rid of that annoying prompt to sign into PSN, which all you have to do is hit cancel and the system allowed one to use the feature regardless. But if you forgot to do this prior to losing PSN access, didn't have a PS4 at the time or just recently obtained a taiHENkaku enabled system then this is for you.

It should also be noted that the DAT file spoken of in this guide can be borrowed from a donor system. For example I got my kid a PSTV for Xmas which didn't have PS4 Link activated. I simply borrowed the file from my Vita and put on her system in order to get this working. Also if you are using the outdated HENkaku for whatever reason you MUST update to taiHENkaku to use the Netcheck Bypass or simply deal with the nag screen. Enough with my winded speech let's hear what the developer has to say about all this.

Remote Play requires a PSN sign-in at some point because when you sign-in to PSN, your online ID gets cached (along with your avatar image URL and banner image URL). The online id is required to link (make sure the same PSN account/online ID is used on both your Vita and PS4). If you logged in to PSN in the past (before PSN spoofing was disabled by Sony), then this cached info is already on your Vita. However, if you formatted your Vita after PSN spoofing was disabled OR you purchased your Vita after spoofing was disabled, then you need to manually create this cache file. This guide will lead you through in doing that.

    • Creating the Online ID Cache

      1. Make sure your Vita is linked to your PSN account. You do not have to be activated! To ensure you are linked, restore your Vita (do NOT format your memory card unless you want to lose everything). Once you get to the welcome screen, select that you already have a PSN account and type in the information. If you remember doing this when you last went through the setup, you do not have to do it again.
      2. Download and open up a hex editor. Create a new file and fill it with 328 bytes of 00. To help, you can copy the following:
        Code:
        00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
      3. REPLACE the first N bytes of the file with your PSN online ID (the same one tied to your PSN account!) where N is the length of the name. For example, if my PSN online id was "MyAccountName" then N would be 13 and the hex would be:
        Code:
        4D 79 41 63 63 6F 75 6E 74 4E 61 6D 65 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
      4. Make sure the file is still 328 bytes!
      5. Save the file as myprofile.dat
      6. Enable HENkaku if you haven't already. With VitaShell/molecularShell, copy the file to ur0:user/00/np/myprofile.dat. If any directory doesn't exist, create it.
      7. Reboot your Vita and you can now use PS4 Link

(Request: Someone should make this into a Vita homebrew app so it won't be as complicated.)

    • Using PS4 Link

When you use PS4 link, the Vita will attempt to log-in to PSN and prompt you to update. If you cancel out, then it will still work. If you don't want to be annoyed by the prompt again, you can install.

And for those not familiar with HEX code you can use an ASCII to HEX converter like the one found HERE

@STLcardsWS some more Vita news that could use your flair for making it eye candy.

a hex conversion isn't necessary. just type ur username into the text field to have it converted immediately. and, have hex+write, not hex+insert, and it should come out to the desired bytes. :)

Good point, we can write at right side of HxD panel in ASCII and just fill rest in HEX with 00 until we reach 328 bytes.

I simply put that as not everyone is going to use a hex editor some people may just use notepad there are many ways to go about it. And everything looks great it can stay just the way it is as far as I am concerned just wanted to get the information out there is all. It's a pain reporting the news on my phone so I greatly appreciate the help.

For those who are trying to do this themselves. You can skip a lot of these tedious steps if you use the account switcher app to unslave your memory card instead of restoring your vita, and either creating your myprofile.dat file manually or using the application that Tromie made here if you use those two tools instead this can be done in less then 5 minutes compared to having to wait for the vita to restore and doing the bytes manually

I didn't realize u had written the article. :-p I haven't done this yet. I'm currently backing up my vita's memory card. it's incredibly slow. I had to do it over wifi since the usb connection only works randomly for no apparent reason. do u have this issue @atreyu187 ?

You shouldn't need to restore your system or backup your memory card if you do the process I outlined a few posts up :p

If you saw it already then I apologize. I don't want to see you potentially waste anytime

thanks. I'm actually backing up the memory cards to have them on my pc in case the unthinkable happens. I'm backing up all crucial files of all of my systems and sd cards/memory sticks/memory cards to an external drive. ;)
