OT:I have situation that I want to sold Blu Ray drive from 2504b PS3. Does this drive have to be married on that model, if not is there a way to just replace optics?

Interesting stuff here :) This 23 blades fan has access to bearings :) I tried last night to replace bearings with new ones but the noise is the same, it doesn't comes from bearings :) EDIT: Here is sound of 23 blades fan https://instaud.io/3wTW And here is delta with 17 blades...

I think that horizontal surface is done so the fan can equally pull air from above and from the bottom holes and properly cool motherboard. That is my concern after I drilled holes above fan, that now the cooling of the motherboard and chips around cpu/gpu is weaker.

Actually you can easily tell what heatsink you have if you look at the CPU part of the heatsink from the back. 21xx model 25xx model

When I said heatsink is heavier I meant on the passive part of the cooler :) Aluminium fins, heatpipes, bases and rest :) I detached both heatsinks from 2103b and 2504b, without fans, and one on 2504 is heavier more robust, have more material :)

Yes I noticed that and also noticed that mass of the heatsink is different. Heatsink on 2504b is heavier than on 2103. Maybe because of 23 blades speed of fan on 2103b doesn't change to 29% till 74/74C and on 2504b 29% speed is on 70/69C. Also fan with 23 blades is much louder.

I notice that fan on this 2103b model has 23 blades and 2504b has 17 blades. Is this normal for this models or someone changed fan in 2103b? :)

I drilled holes. In full load after half hour, in game, temps are 65/66 and fan is at 28%, so that is 10C improvement :)

Today I tested CPU/GPU temps and fan speed with syscon on 2103b model and here are results :) PS3 starts at 20% fan speed 59/56 22% 59/59 23% 61/60 24% 62/62 25% 62/63 26% 64/64 27% 65/65 28% 74/74 29% didn't go higher because it is colder in my room today. Interesting that 29% speed is at...

Don't remove IHS. That is 2004a model? I get better temps without holes, in idle 64/62 fan at 27%.

Hmmm, I just played uncharted 2 again for half hour. Fan goes to 29% at 73/73 and to 31% at 74/75C (or 74/74), and stays at 31% and temps slowly drops. This is hotter than 2504 which boost fan at 31% at 73/73.

Will try later with some game and I will wrote all changes in speed and on what temps, so you can put in chart :) EDIT: Tell me is there any major difference between 2103b and 2504b?

Aha, maybe I was at the edge :) I hear change in sound, so probably fan speed getting higher :) I will try again :)

Me again and fan speed :D I bought another PS3 slim, this time 2103b. motherboard in this model is SUR-001. I left syscon to control fan again, and it is different than on 2504a or 2504b. Fan goes to 28% after 65C but stay on 28% even if temps are 72/72 CPU/GPU. I didn't wait anymore for temp to...
