HDD Cloning ?

Hi PSX-PLACE !

I'm the proud owner of a CECH-3004a with HEN 3.0.2 (HFW 4.87.1) installed, and i was wondering if i could clone it's HDD to replace it with a larger 300gb one ? i got enough internal SATA connectors free on my motherboard, so why not ? i don't have enough disk space on external hard drives to use the official console backup feature so directly cloning a drive would be easier for me.

What program should i use to clone the HDD ? is it even possible ? are all SATA hard drives compatible ? is there a size limit ? (i'm thinking about buying a 1TB hdd sometime soon for my PS3)

also, unrelated but i wanted to know if crucial data would be deleted if you formated a PS3s hard drive ? is the original console's firmware in the PS3's flash chips or is it stored on the HDD ?

Thanks in advance.

If You will clone HDD, then You will end with the same capacity on larger drive. For various of reasons. So i.e if You made sector by sector copy of 1TiB HDD and write it to 2TiB, You will still have 1TiB HDD.

Move Your files via FTP/file manager from console, replace HDD, and put data back.

Another way is using System Backup copy but You must have access to SEN because trophies aren't backuping up and licenses also not.

ALL data will be deleted if You format HDD. That's the reason of formatting. ;)

On all models with NOR memory, there are partitions with firmware related data on HDD, not only on flash alone. That's why during changing HDD, those consoles needs firmware package on USB.

Sorry for the late reply, i just ended up changing the HDD without giving it too much thought ! well, is there a way to open the PS3's file system on my PC ? i just want to get a save file i forgot to backup from my old hard drive ^^" it would be a pain to change it again just to copy the save and i have a readily available HDD dock on my PC case.
