Installing CFW on OFW 4.82

My Slim PS3 is currently on OFW 4.82. Could I flash it and install CFW 4.82 and then spoof 4.83 so I can log into PSN? I'm planning on flashing it using the ps3xploit website on the PS3, being online but not on PSN. Is this possible ?
Also I have a CECH-2501A ps3 in which minverchk told me that the lowest firmware was 3.40. Is this PS3 safe to flash?

YOU CAN USE YOUR INTERNET BROWSER (firmware updates does not restrict the use of internet or the internet browser.)

PSN Connection and Internet is two different things ONLY A PSN connection is affected on a firmware update.

You can jailbreak on 4.82 and then install a 4.82 CFW and spoof it with SEN Enabler to get back online with PSN.
Then when a 4.83 CFW comes out you can update to that.
