PS3 PS3 CECHA with dead USBs

I have an offer to buy a CECHA PS3, but all four USB ports are not working. Could this be due to a dead southbridge, or is there another possible cause?

Could also be a dead usb controller or another passive for support (fuse, resistor, diode). If you end up getting it check for shorts around the ports and work your way up to the syscon going through every component you see

The seller said the ports have power, but the controller won't sync, so there's likely a problem with the data lines.

sounds even more like a passive problem

I'm assuming they tried the reset button on the controller? Worth a try no?
