PS3HEN/HAN (OtherOS, etc)

Hello!

I am very new to this community and had recently the pleasure to start working with PS3HEN and HAN before that matter, I've learned to dump my acc/dat files so i can resign pkgs, I've played homebrew, i have bricked installs on my ps3, I've made my own custom ps2 classic games, and I've also ported early ps3 homebrew games to work with 4.84 HFW right out of the box *no black screen*, one thing that I really want to know though is the possibility of other operating systems on the ps3.

I have been experimenting with trying to run Windows 95/98 on dosbox (DOSBOX 0.74) but I've fell very short with issues due to mounting the img files, which in doing would hardlock my console instantly making the process impossible, but I've heard about OtherOS and Linux on the PS3, and i know about how you originally could have linux on the PS3, before they patched it out years ago due to exploits and other various reasons that I am not informed of, but the question still stands for the people out there and in this community that knows....

Is there any possibly way to install a different OS on the ps3, linux, linux, windows 98? on a PS3 Superslim (a.k.a. Supersh**) with 4.84 HFW and PS3HEN, anybody that has the answers to this question please comment below, and thank you everyone for reading and have a great day!

From what I can gather, It is only possible on the following models, and only after CFW has been installed. HEN is HFW.

This is CFW compatible, should have a min fw ver of 2.70 same as my 2 CECH2003A's, best to check with MinVerChk first incase its been refurbed with a newer MB for whatever reason. You should be able to jailbreak your PS3, install REBUG CFW and then install Linux.

This is a tricky question, with the answers being yes... and no.... You have to install a linux distro that has been optimised for PPC64 (PowerPC64) architecture and even then some distros won't work on the PS3, then you should look for one's that have been specifically made for the PS3's PPC64 architecture.

The new T2 Linux should work, and there will be some quite new PPC64 linux distros that should work, Google is your friend for this.

Yes more or less, funny thing is that if S@ny had never removed OtherOS support then the PS3 might not have been hacked so quickly. PS3 Hacks and CFW was born from the attempt at restoring OtherOS support to the PS3, it opened the door to many finds and goodies in the attempt at restoring this.
