My question starts here:

Since all the users are seemingly intact, is it possible that I install Multiman and just copy over all my saves and trophies?
The Registry seems to be perfectly safe and sound so the signed data should just fit like tetris, right?

Not gonna copy over the games from the backup though - I'll do what I can and download only what I really need

And if I do so, I can just rebuild database and restart for everything to show up?

If you formatted drive, you lost everything already. If not, read this:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ultimate-userdata-backup-guide.29037/

Users will stay on NAND models because they are on flash. On NOR they will die with HDD format.

That's weird - I'll show exactly what my PS3 did:

The file system on the system storage is corrupted and will be restored.

An error occurred during the restore operation.
The system storage must be formatted.
All data on the system storage will be deleted during formatting.
Do you want to format?

(Formatting)
It formatted in like 10-15 seconds and rebooted to basically only the dev_hdd0 wiped. All the users and their PSN login deets were intact.

I'm using a NOR model too - CECH2504B date code 1A (apparently CFW compatible as minimum downgrade is 3.50 but I dont want to do it)

All the glitches I had with the XMB and overall function of the PS3 system itself are gone as well - everything functions like I just bought it.

Thanks for the link to the thread - forgot about it and will restore soon! :D
