RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition)

PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

For completeness... the current Retroarch distribution and its cores can no longer be compiled with the old Sony SDK.
Fortunately, the Crocods core can be compiled with the old Sony SDK and above all compatible with the old version of Retroarch which I can still compile.
However, the current RetroArch can be compiled with PSL1GHT but would have many shortcomings compared to RetroArch_CE, for example the RSX graphics engine (PSL1GHT version) was partially coded for RetroArch.

So since PSL1GHT is not actively developed I guess that this is the best and the last RetroArch version we can have on PS3? It's a pity that devs moved from Sony SDK to PSL1GHT since PS3 is not even supported by Sony...

So much talking about ecology and sustainability today, that it would be nice if hardware producers publicly share tech specs & SDKs after they dropped support for their hardware so it won't turn to junk and pollute environment in short time. EU is now forcing some absurd laws on us like limiting heating in winter, taxes for CO2 production, etc. but no one cares about tons of electronic hardware that cannot be reprogrammed and reused just because of producers attitude. The technology level is overwhelming today but everything is so short-term thought...

This is true, humanity sent people to the moon and back with much less computing hardware than just about anything made today. What could be done if expired tech would become open source for all to use to the fullest... What a start to an amazing and even more wonderful world we could all have.

open source has its pros and cons. the cons are pretty much that people can still the work, not give credit, or in the case of like goldhen on the ps4, create brickers for unsuspecting people in the scene. the pros are obvious, others can build off the work in case the dev retires or just in general, people can compile the builds if precompiled builds don't exist or are lost, etc. I'm a bit ambivalent about it, but I do prefer open source personally.

edit: I remember an SDK in one of the Nintendo scenes called Rice. the projects that use it are not closed source, but the SDK is, so it's impossible for me to build any of them without access to the sdk itself.

sorry for double post, but a good idea is to do what LM does with his homebrew store (probably itemzflow as well). he has an authentication key setup for the app, something only he knows, so the homebrew store will only load if the authentication key is verified, despite the store being open sourced. you can disable this authentication in settings, but in that event, if someone were to install a bricker, it would be their own fault for disabling it.

I think your main issue is not having the environmental variables set up. if you want to try installing stuff with the official sdk, I assume as such. that's why I think the environmental variable you need is CELL_SDK, you may also need a bin PATH in the .bashrc of linux, which is in ~/ or basically your /home/username. then you can try building. however, like I mentioned, retroarch is a pita to build sometimes due to dependencies to build multiple systems. if you want to build like @aldostools , it's similar. msys has a .bashrc as well. put the ev at the very bottom of the .bashrc. if you mess up, a lot of commands will fail to work, but you can test the ev with echo $CELL_SDK in this case. it should tell you the location of your sdk, which is recommended to be in either /opt/ or /usr/local . those are the two best locations. sometimes, compiling an sdk will not work unless the ev is set up as well as privileges to mkdir and such. good luck. I may be able to help you if you get stuck, even though I've never installed CELL_SDK. as I said, it's illegal to share, since it's the official sdk, so you'll have to find it on your own.

Good afternoon, this retroarch beta 4, is not dropping achievements in the genesis core, I've tried everything but it doesn't work, it shows the achievements however, it doesn't drop any, the other colors work well except the genesis, can you help me?

off topic, but I'm in the process of downloading artwork for my games for retroarch on windows. I first tried libretro's github page for thumbnails via git clone, so it was downloading everything. it got up to above 50GBs of artwork after about three or four hours, then error'd at some point. huge mistake/waste of time. it may have gotten interrupted when acronis started creating a backup of my disk. anyway, I'm now just downloading the nine or ten systems I have games for via the zips.

I imagine that unfortunately this restriction also applies to version 1.16.0; where according to the changelog on Retroarch site there is an improvement, which I believe would be quite beneficial for Retroarch_CE PS3 - version: CHANGELOG v1.16.0 =
ARCHIVE/ZIP: Improve ZIP decompression This reduces the amount of memory Retroarch needs to extract a ROM file. It will only need the size of the ROM plus 128KiB to extract the file from the ZIP. Previously it needed as much as twice that amount if the compression ratio was not great. This is useful on memory constrained platforms and has no impact on platforms with plenty of memory. Handles all cases correctly (with and without MMAP, for cores that require fullpath or not, small and big ZIP files).

Hi, does the latest ce ver works on HEN?
Some users reported it hangs on launching and I don't have a console to confirm.
Can somebody help to confirm?
Your posting is now some weeks old, I know. Wanted to reply earlier, but somehow...

Regarding your question:
My PS3 (super slim) is on HFW 4.91.1 and I use PS3HEN 3.3.0 as well as webMAN MOD.

I have made the experience that it is best to also have the ROM/PKG Launcher installed when using Retroarch CE.
It had occured quite often that Retroarch CE did not start properly before I had it installed.
The ROM/PKG Launcher is mentioned at the end of developer crystal's inital posting in this thread, in my case seemingly for a good reason.

There is an N64 emulator outside of Retro Arch, but it's like a beta. No game works because Mario 64 more or less works, but with graphical errors. What I don't understand is why no one has tried to fix that emulator. They only saw that it didn't work and left it there.

because it's not that simple. it's a lot of work for a dev and now n64 emulators run everywhere (android, ios, handheld etc). if you want you can try to open a bounty and maybe some dev will be interested
