"Unsupported data" error when mounting a PS3 game with MultiMAN.

I'm using Rebug with firmware 4.84. I downloaded a game update PKG file and unpacked it using PSN PKG Decryptor & Extractor. I then moved those files under the PS3_GAME folder of the game folder in question and the game is giving me that "unsupported data" error message. Is it possible to fix the game in that game folder format or is it toast at this point? I keep thinking we need to fix the eboot file or something, but it's been a while. And my other question is, is there a working/correct method to unpack those game updates PKG to the game folder that MultiMAN mounts rather then needing to install each update files via the Package Manager?
