Open question for the group. Say you purchase a brand new in box PS3 day 1 console. What mods would you do the minute you open it to have the console not fail with any of the LODs?
That’s kind of what I’m thinking too. I live in Naperville, IL and Best Inc. is right by me (solder.net) and they provide almost any motherboard repair. I’m hoping it’s just a BGA reball repair on the cell. Since they are a very credible company, I might just have them replace the RSX as well...
Thanks ElGris. So I did the ol’ copper penny trick using real 1967 copper pennies. That said, no luck with the Cell. Like you said, typically you’ll get sound. If the Cell was completely fried or bga connection issue, I’d think this would go straight to a YLOD error. Seeing as I need to...
No I’m from the States. It stays solid green without beeping when holding down power to reset the output (like YouTube videos). I’ve tried the component cable already and there is no display. I’m guessing your suggestion that the system won’t reset because the HDMI socket is missing.
Like A/V Analog component cable since I’ll have to transplant an HDMI socket from another COK-001. When holding the reset, no beeps nor flashing so you might be absolutely right that the HDMI socket needs to be in place or it throws an error and stays solid green or standby.
Thanks RIP-Felix. Hypothetically, if the hdmi is the case, would that explain no WiFi or HDD lights? Yes, AV is all I can try today and reset is not an option.
I’m thinking it’s the PSU.
Green light does not blink; stays solid.
System won’t boot into Safe mode or reset.
USB ports don’t charge after booting up.
No HDD light.
No WiFi light.
Disk drive allows insert and eject.
The HDD and the PSU are from day 1 release; my original board stopped working...
Just to clarify, the person that had the board de-soldered the hdmi socket from the board. It’s not broken, it’s physically removed. So I’m not sure if it works through HDMI. Why I’m hoping to get this working, this has never been reflowed or rebelled, I see zero signs of this so it would be...
So you don’t think soldering a working HDMI socket from a transplant board would work? Just asking as I don’t want to spin my wheels if that’s not the true issue.
When I do it, red goes to solid green while holding. You do hear the system do its checks and seems to stand by normally. I feel I’m so close to getting a system work again but it could be wishful thinking.
Hi Coro,
That’s the thing. The system only allows power on and standby mode. No other beeps. Screen flickers on tube TV via AV but no display. I don’t think this is a GLOD type scenario but I can be wrong.
Hey guys,
So the PS3 (COK-001) booted up but the previous owner removed the HDMI socket. No biggie to replace. Problem is, when I plug AV in and hold the power button to reset output, it never does a second beep. If I hold it long enough, system powers off to standby. So is the missing HDMI...
Hi Guys, new to the forum but avid hobbyist when it comes to electronic repair. I have a lot of unknowns that I know most will say “Idk if it will work unless you test,” but I would like some insight. So I went ahead and removed all 8 Tokins...I know I know, should have done 1 at a time...during...
