Hi guys, first of all, sorry for bad english, but i will try my best for you can understand my question.
Scenario:
(First variant) - new hdd placed into ps3, installed ofw, logged psn and enjoying all that original things...

(Second one) - another new hdd placed into ps3, installed cfw after jb, offline psn, but enjoying all the customization stuff and so...

Question:
Its possible simply switch physicaly the one disk for second and vice versa with ps3 turned off and use one or second fw to enjoying all the advantages? Without risking with psn latch on cfw and other risks...

Thanks for all answers

i think that this is not possible because a part of the firmware is stored internally and if you update your ps3 with ofw and swap your hdd with a cfw installed in it your ps3 will ask for ofw and viceversa

Thank you zarebcn, thats what i was affraid of :( i thought...... if possible, it can be fastest method to get all positives in one system. Its pitty, if it is like you say

an e3 with the dock, power adapter, and set up perfectly can give you positive results for a while. They have to be the exact same version (4.86 cfw / 4.86 ofw for instance) and the moment one gets updated, the other will not work and it's the whole process again.

16MB of the firmware is on a flash chip inside the ps3, with the rest on HDD. So you can't do it between OFW and CFW.

You can swap between 2 hard drives if you have installed the same FW on both but that's about it.

I could be wrong but as far as I know when you use the E3 to dual boot like that, you are swapping both the flash portion (CoreOS) and the HDD portion (dev_flash), so it should be fine to have completely different versions.

If you use the built in flash on the e3, you might be able to use completely different versions, but I don't recommend it at all. :)

yeah i had a drive that wouldnt let ps3 start. ps3 was on 4.86 and when i went back to rex 4.84 i put it back in to format it and just pressed power instead of holding down for recovery but it booted up. downgrade cfw go it back... so if i had went to recovery with 4.84 hdd but accidently reinstalled 4.86 instead i assume would have worked also.

I am not sure i am aware about what e3 is :)) but regarding to what i understand from your text, it meqns that if you will stop autoupdate in owf, it wont update and you can exist on 4.85 (for example) forever, or no ?

E3 is a special piece of hardware that dumps/flashes NOR. It has it's own NOR chip that you can switch to if you solder it, allowing the ability to test firmware and use an external hard drive dock to make things easier.
