PS3 4.88 Update is Live! - Official HFW & HEN Released

Yes I tried all the links mentioned above but When I compress the links it gives me a zip file I do not know why ??? I am such a noobie for stuff like this.
oh, i think you did the opposite. you compressed it instead of decompressed it. try double clicking on the file. if it shows a window with a pup file, drag and drop the pup file onto the desktop to decompress it.

if the file does not open, try WinRAR if you are on windows.

Hi folks, I have a quick question. I have a CFW compatible Slim PS3 that was on 4.86 Rebug (I think!) and I stupidly installed the 4.88 HFW (mistaking it for CFW) on it. I can't play any backed up games now. What's my best course of action from here? I did try to install Evilnat 4.88 CFW over it but it says "8002F957 The data is corrupted", and I checked the MD5 checksum and it matched, so I'm assuming I've done something bad!

Many thanks in advance. Tony

Edit - I'm putting my thanks to baldjared here to avoid spamming the thread. Thanks, it's easy in hindsight to see what I've done and how to remedy it, but at the time I was like "Oh oh......I better stop now, it's still booting and I don't want to make it any worse". Thanks for your advice.

Also a big thanks to all the people who code and support this platform. They do it for free in their own time, for our pleasure and benefit. Many thanks guys and girls, it is very much appreciated by many.

okay I'm a super noob, even new to the community. Using my ps3 slim stock and updated it with PS3 earlier. It's waiting to be updated to 4.88
Question is if I can update the Official firmware + Hen and still be able to sign in to PSN just to update my trophies

You should use HFW 4.88.1 (Hybrid Firmware) not OFW 4.88 (Official firmaware).

Both are almost the same firmware, except for one file from OFW 4.82 in HFW that allows HEN installation.

Once you have HFW 4.88.1 + HEN installed. If you don't enable HEN, you technically have an OFW.

If you enabled HEN, you must disable CFW syscalls (usually with R2+△) before sign in to PSN.

So I should just update hen firmware and use it as usual?

The latest ps3 system software is 4.88 & you are using 4.86, you cannot sign into PSN if you don't use the latest fw version.

When you reinstalled HFW 4.86, you basically reinstalled official files including those responsible for XMB menus items & the XMB customisations made by PS3HEN vanished.

You should update to hfw 4.88 (pup file available in OP) then install the latest PS3HEN (PS3HEN has been updated to keep up with the fw updates) & after reboot, you will get the package manager on xmb.

It's a CFW2OFW game, you have to copy it in the "game" folder not "GAMES", after that Rebuild Database, the game will appear in XMB.

Where do those files come from?
Did you do some kind of game conversion process on PC to get those?

Anyone else feel that this version of HEN is more unstable then the previous? Like with the previous HFW and HEN it was 9 out of 10 times it would successfully start for me when I clicked on the icon. Now its 9 out of 10 times it fails and reboots the system.

If you are talking about the exploit initialization failures issue, it's not exactly a question of stability even though it may appear like that to you.
I only worked on PS3HEN for a short time during its development phase & I haven't checked the source used in successive releases but I doubt the code responsible for the initialization attempts success or failure has changed a iota ever since it was released in the first wave of ps3xploit tools releases, more than a year before HEN itself was released.
I wrote that code & there is a bug in it, a bug that I found & fixed a couple of years ago when I rewrote a number of functions I decided to include into my PS3 Toolset framework but because PS3HEN still uses an older version of the code, over 3 years old, it didn't benefit from that rewrite.

The HEN exploit initialization failures (and similar init failures in all other ps3xploit tools except the PS3 Toolset) happen when the target signatures the code searches for are not aligned in memory as the code expects.
Things like prior traffic before loading the exploit page or simple changes made to the exploit page, even a small addition or removal of text in the GUI, can potentially impact the layout of browser related data in memory, in other words, it modifies the likelihood of the target signatures to be located on certain offsets and that translates into a clear variation of the signature search success rates.

The XMB shortcuts to enable HEN for instance enjoy a better success rate because the minimalistic approach without GUI makes the target signature statistically very likely to be aligned in memory at offsets that the search algo won't miss. In the same way, it's better to load the exploit page in the browser as the homepage so there is no prior traffic, not even the **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) main page.
Or alternatively add the exploit page as a favourite & set the homepage to blank so you can start the browser & use the favourite directly.
Currently, without modifying the source code, those are the only proven ways to improve the success rate.
It's more effective than clearing cookies, cache etc.. as usually advised. Cookies cannot impact memory layout, none are used by the exploit page so no cookie related data gets loaded into memory. As to cache clearing, I have not seen any statistical evidence of an impact on signature locations.

As it turns out, the whole signature search algorithm I used in that old exploit implementation is rubbish (lol), not only it fails to search half the possible offsets due to that bug but in terms of performance it is a terrible design as well, it does in a loop with thousands upon thousands of iterations of string cutting & string to number conversions, something that can be achieved in one line of js code extremely efficiently through string manipulations that the javascript language was specifically optimised to perform.
If the search algorithm in HEN was replaced by the new algo used in the Toolset, I am pretty sure the HEN exploit initialization stage could reach a 100% success rate & in a fraction of the time it currently takes.

Well getting it on the console has always been troublesome for me. I remember trying for 3 hours one time after an update before it finally successfully installed and initialized. Usually once its installed I have no issues. After some testing I found that offline loading of HEN through the XMB shortcut only failed 1/10 times while trying to start HEN with a online connection through a ethernet cable (doubt Wi-Fi would change much) the failure rate was 4/10 times. This is after waiting a minute to let everything load in. I'm not smashing that HEN button as soon as it appears. Maybe I just have a jank PS3, but starting with a online connection is doing something sometimes to increase the failure rate of HEN initialization.

Other things to note is that my PS3 has a 1TB SSHD and after the 4th failure, the 5th loading of HEN, It succeeded on every load after. Although, the offline testing yielded a failure at the 9th loading of HEN.

Hi guys! first I apologize my probable bad english And I would like to ask you for help.Today I finally mounted a 500GB hard drive on my PS3 and I wanted to Jailbreak it. I install the HFW on the USB stick and proceed to install it on the ps3.
I go to Update via USB (or something like that I don't remember lol) and start the update. While installing it tells me that the latest update is already installed. So I'm going to inform and read that if you get this error you have to install the HFW from Safe Mode. I have only one problem, I don't even have a ps3 controller at home, and it would bother me to buy one (with the problem of probably waiting a week for it to arrive) there is some way to install the HFW without going into safe mode and fix the "last update already installed" error?
The PS3 version is 4.88. Thanks in advance

The only thing that I can suggest is to make sure the file structure is PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDAT.PUP. on the USB Thumbdrive and that its formatted to FAT32. Only select Update using Storage Media and it should let you update so long as the HFW version is the latest. PS3 only installs updates if the System Software update is the current version or newer.

I assume your using a third-party controller, Dualshock 4 or 5, or even a PS2 to PS3 Controller adapter? Which makes the home button either inaccessible, or it just doesn't work for safe mode. So the only thing I can suggest is above because Safe mode does not work unless a USB connection is made with a Sixaxis Controller or Dualshock 3. I've never tested third-party clone DS3s so I can't say for them.

I have checked the file structure 30 times and it is always right. My USB is formatted to Fat 32, and I've always done updates via Storage media, but it always gives me the error that the latest Version is installed. And yes, my PS3 super slim is in version 4.88. For the Safe mode controller I have tried everything ... DualShock 4, DualShock 2 ... I have even tried the Logitech G29 and the PlayStation Move, but none of them work. I guess I'll really have to buy a DualShock 3 and then send it back straight away ... More than anything else it makes me demoralized that no YouTuber who did the HFW tutorial has ever Encountered this problem ... And to these people who did the tutorials everything always goes first try ...
All these problems just to play the Gran Turismo 5 Master Mod ...
