2k rcos? That's not a sustainable system IMHO especially that we have no idea how many more updates s#ny will push in the future and whether or not they will impact rcos leaving you in the same predicament all over again.
That's probably where dynamic rco patching should come in...
Yeah, it could be a never ending story, we are late in the PS3 firmware lifetime but it could happen again
When thinking in the dinamic rco patching there is another important detail that worths to be mentioned, right now we have full control of the rco file contents... but we dont have full control of the results because after our rco is loaded into memory is going to be "patched" by a sprx.. so there are many times when we are trying to do something in the rco but there is a sprx somewhere that "reverts" our changes or breaks the XMB just because there is a mistmatch
The best way to implement a custom dinamic rco patching would be to apply our patches in memory after the official patches, in other words:
1) The rco is loaded into memory, 2) The official sprx patches it, 3) we apply another patch on top of the official
This would give us full control
of the results, actually, i think is the only way to achieve full control
Sony never messed with the layout files since I started making rco mods (2016) until now
Maybe because they made no GUI changes since 2016?
With the slow removal of PSN features, it's quite possible that the GUI layout settings might be affected again in future updates.
Without readily available dynamic rco patching, your best bet might be to automate the rco patching on your PC through the use of scripts or whatever.
The other day i was thinking in it and is ironic how much chaos they caused by a tiny modification in a couple of rco files, im completly sure it was not made intentionally to "hurt" the PS3 scene but in some way it did, and im sure it happened in the past probably in other old firmware versions, is just we never was faced to the "problem" so rudelly, lol
At least i dont remember ever before any report of tenths of rco files that became incompatibles with previous firmware versions, I been interested in the layout.txt files since many time ago (trying to figure who is the owner of each value) but i never had an official "sample" of this
I just don't understand why Sony didn't include the new 7 values at the bottom of the layout files, just for that they needed to modify 76 sprxs and 43 rcos, if they had included at the bottom only psn related files would need to be modified
Yeah, it depends of the position in the layout.txt files, but im sure it happened before
what happens, is most of the times they are modifying a value that already exist (so there is no displacement in the layout.txt files)... or is a new feature driven by a new specific sprx (so is added at the bottom)
The order of values inside the layout.txt files probably depends of a lot of stuff... but maybe one of them is the chronologically order where every "owner" of the value was implemented... lets say... at top of the list probably are the values that was used by the "pre-retail" rcos (or from retail firmware 1.00), dunno
Also, what you mentioned about the 76 updated sprx files is another proof that the sprx files are storing "references" to the line numbers of the layout.txt files
I mean... i understand the OFW 4.89 required to update the code inside a couple of sprx files (and a couple of rco files too, mostly to include new icons and a couple of text messages)... but 76 updated sprx and 43 updated rcos ?... is imposible they udpated the source code of 76 sprx files... all this updated files are obviouslly a consequence of the displacement inside the layout.txt files
And btw... sony gave us a hint about how this works... because if we decrypt both versions of the sprx file and compare them OFW 4.88 vs OFW 4.89 in a hex editor one of the diffferences (probably the only) are going to be that references to the line numbers of the layout.txt files

Same stuff with the rco's, if we compare the xml extracted by rcomage from the 43 rco versions that was updated in between 4.88 OFW vs 4.89 OFW the only difference are that references to the line numbers of the layout.txt files

*the only exception where the differences are bigger are the couple of rco/sprx that was really updated (the responsibles of the displacement in the layout.txt files... in other words... the owners of the new 7 values added to the layout.txt files for 4.89)
Salut
@sandungas .
Je suis désolé mais ce n'est pas moi qui ai reporté un souci avec le 272p car je n'ai pas encore installé le HFW-4.89 ni le HEN-3.1.0.
Merci tout de même.
Ok, i thought you was using remote play with a real PSP, so we dont have confirmation of the 272p fix
But well... after the inspection of the crime scene im sure the 272p had a problem caused by the 2 missing lines... and later i realized it was a matter of finding "where is wally ?" because the values was not missing (is just they was located in a diffrent file) lol
