PS3 4.89 Update is Live! - Discussions / Details about the firmware update

People are welcome to make pull requests in order to integrate new features into HEN, just like bucanero did with the act.dat restore feature. [emoji6]

Unfortunately it is still far beyond my abilities :culpability: but one day who knows, at the moment modifying the xmb is already giving me a lot of headache hehe, I will need to update more than 2k rcos O.o, I don't know what to do but sit and cry

2k rcos? That's not a sustainable system IMHO especially that we have no idea how many more updates s#ny will push in the future and whether or not they will impact rcos leaving you in the same predicament all over again.
That's probably where dynamic rco patching should come in...

@esc0rtd3w i'm seeing here the hen 3.1.0 source, i realized that the pseudo cobra is still 8.1, will it be updated in the future to 8.3? (Fan control, save data converter, act.dat creation and etc)

BTW what is it for? in the xai plugin

<Pair key="title"><String>Set Kernel FW Version To 4.86</String></Pair>
<Pair key="info"><String>Sets Build Date For HEN Detection</String></Pair>

and

<Pair key="title"><String>NoPSN Patch: DEV TEST ONLY</String></Pair>
<Pair key="module_action"><String>nopsn_test</String></Pair>

is this somehow a universal patch?
the cobra update idk how much will be added. There are some remnants of some of the things you mentioned, but i am not the one who has enough experience with cobra to make major changes.

where are you seeing the 3.1.0 hen src lol

those xml entries are just for testing and they are not active or included in release

Sony never messed with the layout files since I started making rco mods (2016) until now, the system_plugin,rco is the most problematic for me now, i have many variants of this with different mods

I have 15 clock mods, 8 system sounds, 12 button styles (for buttom styles, impose and premo will also have to be upgraded, impose for background mods and buttons styles, premo for buttons styles )
So i will have to update 15x8x12 (1440 rcos) just for system_plugin.rco

PS3 4K Pro includes more than 5k rco mods lol most of them for one mod to be compatible with another mod in the same rco.

Fair enough XP

About the src/release, you know, just a url trick i've been using for years hehe

Maybe because they made no GUI changes since 2016?
With the slow removal of PSN features, it's quite possible that the GUI layout settings might be affected again in future updates.

Without readily available dynamic rco patching, your best bet might be to automate the rco patching on your PC through the use of scripts or whatever.

I just don't understand why Sony didn't include the new 7 values at the bottom of the layout files, just for that they needed to modify 76 sprxs and 43 rcos, if they had included at the bottom only psn related files would need to be modified

Those things are mostly compiled, the devs didn't modify all those files manually.
And keep in mind that whoever worked on this was a minimal team (maybe just one guy) and probably not made of their best devs either.

Please help Cech 4202c
I installed your hfw now I can't access internet browser and keyboard ain't showing up so I can't install hen or access any homebrew aps

reset your settings on xmb. The HFW is not the problem. You cant access homebrew apps anyways until you install or run HEN. What you say makes no sense cause this is essentially an OFW, and tested on just about every model.

Post a screenshot or reinstall firmware again in recovery mode, or probably through xmb

And now there's this

How am I suppose to install hen when I have no keyboard and can't even use the browser

Re installed that way I have same issues you guys were already reporting on the other day

I accessed PS3 xploits site via my PS3 internet history then clicked everywhere hoping Id hit the correct stuff as I can't see the mouse cursor on screen

With a miracle I installed hen
(Took Me awhile)

But those same graphical errors are still there on the PS3 superslim cech 4202c

I updated from hfw 4.88.1 directly to hfw 4.89.1 if that info helps

Otherwise everything else is working fine and I cant sign in though keyboard not showing but I can hear its noises when I move arrow keys

AND I HAVE PS3 ON A SPARE TV AT 576i quality that info could be important using standard 3 color av Cables

UPDATE :

I HAVE NOW FIXED THE ISSUE
I installed it via recovery menu then again on the xmb made my PS3 do a Restore System File and now keyboard and everything is working

It must be the way I had my PS3 configured or I had a bad file somewhere?

Sorry to any confusion I may have caused the developers. This issue is on my end.

EVERYONE DISREGARD MY ISSUES I HAD IT WAS ON MY END AND THE HFW IS WORKING FINE

Yeah, it could be a never ending story, we are late in the PS3 firmware lifetime but it could happen again
When thinking in the dinamic rco patching there is another important detail that worths to be mentioned, right now we have full control of the rco file contents... but we dont have full control of the results because after our rco is loaded into memory is going to be "patched" by a sprx.. so there are many times when we are trying to do something in the rco but there is a sprx somewhere that "reverts" our changes or breaks the XMB just because there is a mistmatch
The best way to implement a custom dinamic rco patching would be to apply our patches in memory after the official patches, in other words:
1) The rco is loaded into memory, 2) The official sprx patches it, 3) we apply another patch on top of the official

This would give us full control of the results, actually, i think is the only way to achieve full control

The other day i was thinking in it and is ironic how much chaos they caused by a tiny modification in a couple of rco files, im completly sure it was not made intentionally to "hurt" the PS3 scene but in some way it did, and im sure it happened in the past probably in other old firmware versions, is just we never was faced to the "problem" so rudelly, lol
At least i dont remember ever before any report of tenths of rco files that became incompatibles with previous firmware versions, I been interested in the layout.txt files since many time ago (trying to figure who is the owner of each value) but i never had an official "sample" of this

I just don't understand why Sony didn't include the new 7 values at the bottom of the layout files, just for that they needed to modify 76 sprxs and 43 rcos, if they had included at the bottom only psn related files would need to be modified
Yeah, it depends of the position in the layout.txt files, but im sure it happened before
what happens, is most of the times they are modifying a value that already exist (so there is no displacement in the layout.txt files)... or is a new feature driven by a new specific sprx (so is added at the bottom)
The order of values inside the layout.txt files probably depends of a lot of stuff... but maybe one of them is the chronologically order where every "owner" of the value was implemented... lets say... at top of the list probably are the values that was used by the "pre-retail" rcos (or from retail firmware 1.00), dunno

Also, what you mentioned about the 76 updated sprx files is another proof that the sprx files are storing "references" to the line numbers of the layout.txt files
I mean... i understand the OFW 4.89 required to update the code inside a couple of sprx files (and a couple of rco files too, mostly to include new icons and a couple of text messages)... but 76 updated sprx and 43 updated rcos ?... is imposible they udpated the source code of 76 sprx files... all this updated files are obviouslly a consequence of the displacement inside the layout.txt files

And btw... sony gave us a hint about how this works... because if we decrypt both versions of the sprx file and compare them OFW 4.88 vs OFW 4.89 in a hex editor one of the diffferences (probably the only) are going to be that references to the line numbers of the layout.txt files ;)
Same stuff with the rco's, if we compare the xml extracted by rcomage from the 43 rco versions that was updated in between 4.88 OFW vs 4.89 OFW the only difference are that references to the line numbers of the layout.txt files ;)
*the only exception where the differences are bigger are the couple of rco/sprx that was really updated (the responsibles of the displacement in the layout.txt files... in other words... the owners of the new 7 values added to the layout.txt files for 4.89)

Salut @sandungas .

Je suis désolé mais ce n'est pas moi qui ai reporté un souci avec le 272p car je n'ai pas encore installé le HFW-4.89 ni le HEN-3.1.0.

Merci tout de même.
Ok, i thought you was using remote play with a real PSP, so we dont have confirmation of the 272p fix
But well... after the inspection of the crime scene im sure the 272p had a problem caused by the 2 missing lines... and later i realized it was a matter of finding "where is wally ?" because the values was not missing (is just they was located in a diffrent file) lol

a few HEN versions ago the problem of PSP games not booting if you had a USB socket occupied was fixed but doesn't seem to
