4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

Just pulled out my CFW PS3 for the first time in years. Spent a while reading up on what's what today.
Updated to Evilnat 4.90, copied a test game across, installed the pkg, put the RAP file in hdd0/exdata but when clicking on Create Rif license in Cobra I get a message saying no RAP files found?
Any ideas anyone?

While Cobra payload reads RAP files from /dev_hdd0/exdata, /dev_usb000 or /dev_usb001, the function create_rifs of xai_plugin only converts the RAP files from USB devices 0-127.

Me again lol. I installed webMAN MOD a moment ago and my PS3 fans went absolutely batshit!! The only way I could stop them was to uninstall it again. Is this a compatibility issue with the 4.90CFW?
My temps are around 70c, I don't know if that's normal or not for an old Fat console (CECHP03) but the fan seems to be doing its job without sounding like a jet fighter taking off lol.

No compatibility issues.
It's just that web man by default is set to take temps under 70, which leads to higher fan speed than syscon, which syscon is a phat killer.

So, if your temp is 70 and higher, it would try to reduce it.

Hmmm, I might have to take a look inside this console and blow out all the dust, That's probably a good start to reducing temps.

WebMAN MOD is there to save your console. If the fan kicked in because your console got temps over 70ºC, then you need to address that issue as soon as possible: clean it, apply new thermal paste, check that the heatsinks have good contact with the IHS.

What temps would be considered normal then?

I started to strip down the console but got stopped in my tracks by a big white sticker covering up the ribbon cable on the bottom of the BD drive, got paranoid about it ripping the cable if I pulled it off. :) I did manage to get a huge amount of dust out of it though but I imagine there's plenty more in the bottom half of the console.....

I will give it another go when I have more time to pay full attention to what I am doing :)

A temperature below 70°C is considered normal on XMB and a peak of 75°C while playing a game with high demand of resources.

By default wMM sets the target of dynamic fan control to 68°C to keep the console cooler.

There are many other factors to consider, like SKU model, air flow, environment temperature, etc.

That is good info, thanks. I will check temps again later. I'm sure when I measured last it was at 72c in the XMB after I had been gaming for 30 mins or so.

As others already mentioned, the below 70 c is considered normal.

As for opening console, just look at your model teardown videos so you get the idea of what's what.

Try to achieve between 60 and 65 ºC, but as @aldostools said, anything below 70 ºC is OK, depending on the PS3 model though.

Also, look for a disassembly video of your PS3 model. Those are very useful if it is your first time opening a PS3.

I couldn't find a tear down for my specific model (CECHP03). :(

Hello,
Is there a CFW variant with noBD + OC to download? I couldn't find it anywhere.
And thank you for all the work, i'm using Evilnat on my ps3 and i love it!

Be aware: if you have a console with either a weak PSU, several high current draw USB peripherals connected (USB HDDs, chargers) and/or capacitor problems, OC version will make your console crash with a red blinking light while playing some ps2 and ps3 games, since it puts extra strain on the PSU by increasing the power draw of the overclocked component, and the PSU shuts down to prevent damage. My slim console constantly crashed unless playing simple 2D games or emulating older consoles with OC installed, ever since I installed the non-OC firmware these crashes are gone. @Evilnat you might wanna put a warning in the OP to reflect this, since these consoles are not getting any newer and the extra strain on the PSU might cause power problems.

Hi all Sony fella!

My old ps3 slim with CFW 4.65 (it a long time and the version check is: NOR firmware: 4.65 CEX Cobra 7.0). I really want update it to new version CFW. Do I have to upgrade to OriginalFW 4.90, then patch and jailbreak CFW 4.90? Or can I upgrade directly from CFW 4.65 to CFW 4.90? And i see first post to many version PEX, CEX, DEX, so which one to choose?

Sincerely thank you very much. Have a nice day

You can install directly to Evilnat 4.90 PEX.

Alternatively you can install the overclocked version of the same CFW. However there is not much information about how OC could affect your system in the long term.

The other installers are for users with Bluray drive and/or Bluetooth broken.
