4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

I know which flags are activated since I requested this feature privately nearly two years ago. It was enabled by turning the custom system information on in the 4.88.2 CFW, because of patched sysconf_plugin.rco. I am not sure whether it is still working in the newer custom firmware releases.

@Evilnat i still think that emer_init.elf should not disable cobra nor boot_plugins.txt

Is really annoying have those features turned off everytime recovery is accessed.

My suggestions would be

The implementation of a pad detection on boot, just like on PSP, if R2 is held while the system is booting the plugins are bypassed

I asked @esc0rtd3w for that feature and now it is part of hen 3.2.0, ofc the approach is different, it works while enabling HEN.

and about the Cobra, i think it can be implemented by holding L2 or disabled by "Restore Default Settings Option" in recovery menu.

Doubt it, are you sure we're talking about pkg files? I think you're talking about installed games in PKG format.

If so it will be addressed in the incoming version, Aldo shared a registory.xml that fixes it a few posts behind
No i genuinely mean the packages, mainly my DLC for Call of Duty. That's where it noticed that.

EDIT: The PS/PS2 thing is visually only anyway. The PS options already apply to ps2netemu

I know, i was the one who asked :D

Button combo should not work on Recovery Menu because Cobra it's already loaded. This feature is to avoid problems with plugins or stage2, especially on NAND because it can completely brick the PS3

Hello Evilnat. I can't download CFW files from MEGA site. The MEGA site does not work in my country. If possible, upload the CFW files to 1fichier.com and I can download and install them. Thank you.

I mean button combo while the system is booting to disable the plugins (hold r2) and about cobra, getting it disabled in recovery mode only if a user click on a specific option, like "Restore Default Settings" option

Let's says, one needs to disable cobra, so performorming a Restore Default Settings will do the job , well there's a drawback there because the xRegistry.sys will also be reseted, but its not a big deal.

Most of the users don't even know what cobra is, so when they goes to recovery mode, cobra features stops to work and they will not know why

Edit: got it, cobra is loaded even in recovery, if there is an issue it will prevent recovery to work so that's why it gets disabled there.

@Evilnat, here are another PS2 specific patches to consider for implementation in the CFW:
1. Skip demo check present in the ps2_gxemu/ps2_netemu
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Talk:PS2_Emulation#Skip_demo_disc_check
2. Fix the loading of HDD whitelisted games with the Cobra for ps2_netemu. Untested properly on the backwards HDD compatible consoles - a memory patch applied when mounting ps2_netemu games may be needed instead of statically patched module.

Also really something should be done about physical discs. If netemu can't be hacked to support them, at the very least it should display an error like OFW does; right now inserting a PS2 disc into a non-BC console crashes it.

It is a side effect of PS2 non-BC patches. Still better than no support for PS2ISO.
So it's not possible to deactivate physical disks because the way the ISOs are mounted make the OS think it is a physical disk right?

Edit: Small question about the ps2_netemu. Since it's based on gxemu and softemu, has the code for CD/DVD and USB support been actively removed from the emulator or is it just deactivated? I ask because the emulator executable is quite a bit bigger than gxemu and softemu while having less functionality.
Also is there so far no way to make memory card assignment possible in netemu?

Wait, is there a copy of softemu available?

Up until the early 4.XX firmware yes, but it's not really functional or what do you mean?
Softemu was clearly a prototype and hasn't seen any development since netemu was introduced, so netemu is clearly the successor. Just the product strategy changed. That's why I'm asking if the old code for physical media and peripherals is still in there. There is a good chance it is.

Hi I have a question: I'm on version 4.88 HFW with HEN, can I use BGToolSet and then install CFW 4.90 (my PS3 supports CFW) instead of using Flash Writter? Do I have to wait for BGToolSet support for 4.90?

No, there is a check preventing PS2 games to be launched from disc on incompatible models, bypassed by the Cobra. Whereas the crash is caused by lack of support for optical discs in the ps2_netemu.

You're not on 4.90 already, so you're good to use bgtoolset.

the 4.90 Dex pup file reads as 4.88.1 cobra 8.3 evilnat cfw im not sure if that was intended but when its put on usb its greyed out and doesnt read 4.90 dex 8.4 so anyway you could re upload that one?

So why can't this bypass be disabled then on later Fat consoles and Slim consoles?
