The error code 80710A06 is a SSL connect handshake error, DEX VSH does not have any reference to a valid certificate authority (CA) from the file CA_LIST.cer

This is the data I have researched:
  • Github and other URLs: Uses DigiCert Global Root G2 in CA_LIST.cer, in this case to download PKGs from Github
  • DEX vsh.self file has no reference to this certificate (CEX does have it)
  • We need to add DigiCert Global Root G2 hardcoded in DEX vsh.self in an offset with enough space

If we open DEX vsh.self (4.84) in a HEX Editor and we go to the offset 0x703A20, we can see info about the last CA available in CA_LIST.cer (Security Communication RootCA3) in 4.84 DEX.

Offset 0x703A20 - Value 0x6A8EA0: Reference to /dev_flash/data/cert/CA_LIST.cer
Offset 0x703A24 - Value 0x372B: Offset where starts the certificate in CA_LIST.cer, in this case Security Communication RootCA3 (-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----)
Offset 0x703A28 - Value 0x0x07D0: Certificate size
Offset 0x703A2C - Value 0xBC3436AAEB3459A7AAB55B5614467BB7E3B43AB5: SHA1 hash (Thanks to @aldostools for checking it)
Offset 0x703A40 - Value 0x6F7454B3: Unknown​

Luckily, the next 0x28 bytes in offset 0x703A50 are available and are enough to be able to add the reference

As for this new found beta15 issue for CEX to DEX, how can one update when a new cfw update comes out if one cannot update without being in DEX mode? I need to be in DEX to update, currently on CEX from original DEX. Yes, QA flag is enabled.
[Unless since I went from DEX to CEX, going back to DEX from CEX should not have any issue] IDK if that makes a difference.

If you are on dex, you need to install a dex firmware, in your case D-PEX

Excuse my ignorance, it has been a decade or more for me since being in scene (3.55 Rebug was still the norm).
My PS3 Slim is still sitting on Rebug PS3 3.55, I want to bring it all up to date, since being disabled I have collected nearly every console from PS2/OG Xbox up to Series X and PS5. Even steam Deck, ROG Ally, WiiU, Switch, PSP, PS Vita...

My question.
What is the difference between 'PEX' and 'CEX'? And I don't mind OC or not.
Once I remember all the apps to install (Multiman is now Webman, correct?)
Running games from a directory rather than ISO on an external drive will not need the encrypt files correct? Or will external ONLY run ISO?
Gonna have to run through Mr Marios channel lol. Main question is the PEX and CEX.
Oh and can JB PS3 go on marketplace and stuff now? Any changes there?

PEX is the equivalent of Rebug REX. It allows you to switch between CEX and DEX, basically allowing you to turn your system into a devkit if you wish to do so, but if you don't use that option then it's pretty much the same as CEX.
multiMAN is not webMAN (or rather webMAN MOD; the original webMAN is long abandoned). webMAN MOD is not a standalone app but rather a VSH plugin, which integrates directly into XMB and makes mounting games a lot quicker. multiMAN is still useful for ripping discs and as a local file manager.
You can play game directories without any issues. ISOs are only needed for PS1 and PS2 games. Encryption is not necessary except for the specific case of PS2 games on non-BC hardware that has HEN (and not CFW).

Don't use MrMario's videos, since you're already on CFW. Updating it is as simple as putting the new firmware on USB (make sure it's MBR-FAT32 formatted and the file is named PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP) then install the update the normal way. Jumping directly from 3.55 to 4.91 might fail, in which case you might want to work your way up gradually. Just make sure you don't accidentally install OFW (or HFW) because you will lose your jailbreak in that case and will have to start over from scratch.

You can still access the store. Sony intended to shut it down back in 2021 but went back on its decision following a public backlash, and right now there is no announced date for a shutdown. The only differences are that (a) You can't create new accounts on the PS3 anymore. If you need a new account, create it on a PS4 / PS5 / Sony's website, then you can use it on the PS3. (b) You can't use your regular password to log in on a PS3. You need to go to Sony's website and generate a PS3 specific device password, which you then use on the PS3 instead of your regular password and (c) You can't purchase on the PS3 store using a credit card directly. You have to top up your balance on a PS4 / PS5 / Sony's website using your credit card, and then you can use your balance on the PS3 store. Alternatively you can use gift cards, which can still be redeemed directly on the PS3.

Bans are extremely rare these days, assuming you don't do stupid stuff like cheating or trophy hacking. Still, most people prefer not to use the same account that they use for the PS4 / PS5 since a ban does mean the account is completely closed.

How about the OC? Is it worth it?

Personally I don't OC because I don't think it's worth the risk of overheating. If you have a fat console with a 90nm RSX, overclocking is virtually asking for a YLOD.

You will still need to clean it and reapply the thermal paste if you consider overclocking. OC consoles should be routinely maintained, even slims. Use webMAN MOD, enable dynamic fan control and set the target temperature to 68 degrees. Monitor the temperatures regularly. If they go above 70 and/or the fans go above 40%, turn off your console immediately and have it serviced.

Thanks for the info. I know my way around opening consoles and have soldering station and all the stuff and templates to reball multiple consoles and putting in RGH into 360s. But I am too old to deal with it anymore lol.

All I need now is to theoretically find a site like PS3 ISO from back in the day. But NOT for piracy, absolutely NOT for piracy.

I was in dex, but in cex currently.
I cannot update unless in dex mode. Manily saying it seems I am stuck on beta 15 because I cannot update do to bug and me being on CEX mode. Yes d pex or what ever was beta 15 release (not cex version) is what I am on, but in Cex mode from Dex atm and stuck it seems.

The update itself doesn't brick. It seems that converting between CEX and DEX is what triggers it.
PEX and D-PEX are identical except that the former is for CEX units and the latter is for DEX units (either real or converted). Either way you don't need to convert, you just need to install the appropriate version.
Also, if you're already on b15 then you're already on the latest version (as of now), so I'm not sure what update you are trying to install.

If you really need to convert you can always downgrade back to an earlier beta.

Ok...I think I understand what is being said....Cex needs Cex and d-pex needs d-pex ect ect. The update I was refering too was the future fixed beta that is not released yet. When avaliable.

Not sure I understand lol.
In general, each has their better roles, but if we are going by raw overall talent, I would have to go with Nickelson. He has played a much much wider range of roles. Such as Joker in 80s Batman, OCD narcissist in 'As Good as it Gets', hardened veteran in 'A Few Good Men', Psycho in 'The Shining', and I don't know what you would call him in 'One flew Over a CooCoos Nest'. But, I also like the roles we have seen Cage in. Problem is, Cages ranges is not quite as wide and large as Jacks and Cage for awhile took any role offered to him just for the pay. Not saying that's a horrible thing, but it will obviously add quite a few duds to your filmography.
