4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

Hello i have a japanase slim model 2500X with last version of evilnant beta 15, I can't boot any games from HDD only with ISO format. When try to launch from HDD with MultiMAN or Irisman , nothing happen and it just return to XMB.... is this a common problem?

I have a Japanase COK-001 PS3 fat 60GB, and have the same issues with attempting to run PSX BIN/CUE or PS2 ISO... fails back to XMB.

I'm on Evilnat 4.91.2 BETA 14 NOBD (I have no BD drive)

Hope this is a bug. Hope this report helps.

Thank you for ALL the great info! Some it will take a bit of remembering (50yo now lol), but I will get at this.

How about the OC? Is it worth it?
i used to do OC on standard OC frequencies and also a little bit higher but at least on my end i saw a small performance differences for a 2-3 or more degrees up during gameplay and also type of game, i rather to leave it as standard frequencies my ps3 slim 2101A at the end, so far i have it with SSD adata SU650 480gb for more than a year now and no performance degredation or similar on my console

you can never tell with OC. it may lesson the lifespan of the console. there's just not enough information about it. it does seem to increase performance, in some cases a lot, though.

my thinking as to why nobd doesn't work with ISO's is that it uses syscall 36, which is a redirection or remapping of the bd drive. if the bd drive isn't detected, it can't remap. just a guess really.

I installed my BD daughterboard, along with the "regular" PEX CFW. Instantly, I can play PSX and PS2 ISOs. My copy of Little Big Planet also works!

It seems a check for a proper signal/data from the BD daughterboard is required to launch some HDD titles (and all disc images)

Thanks to everyone for help. I hope this helps other people without BD drives.

I had everything working on beta 15 on my CECH-2004A machine. Added Multiman, MultimanMod, PSP Launcher Fixed 3.30, apollo-ps3 and then when I added Cobra-usr_psp-launcher v2.0 things went bad. I am not sure if the psp launcher is to blame, but when I power on the machine, it freezes 3-4 seconds after the evilnat logo disappears.
I am not sure what the problem here is but I have a few savegames on the machine I would like to keep, so making a full factory reset is not the first thing I want to try.
Recovery menu works just fine.
Any suggestions?

Hello to all

I had a fully working fat PS3 CECHL03 with 4.90 CFW which after a long time i forgot and press update from the settings menu. It connected and donlwoaded a 4.91 version and now doesnt boot and asks for "an external storage with 4.91 or newer".

I did downloaded from this thread the CFW 4.91.2 CEX BETA 14 and put it on an MBR FAT32 16gb usb stick. Update folder top directory and inside the PS3UPDAT pup file. didnt work. didnt recognize it. Tried the pup file alone on top directory, didnt work either. Tried another usb stick. The same.

Also the safe mode menu format doesnt work gives the same message (put external storage 4.91 or newer)

Any suggestions?
Merry christmas to everyone

If you updated to OFW 4.91, then you will have to jailbreak it again via BgToolset.

Also, make sure that your PUP file is placed in the right folder: usb_drive/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

Thanks for the reply.

Indeed my path was wrong. I put as you mention, checked checksum is correct but when updating says "the data is corrupted (8002F2C5)"

Indeed i might have OFW now but doesnt work at all so the BGToolset is browser tool so i cant access it. Or i miss smth?

If you are softbricked and also lost your jailbreak you need to install OFW first, and then use the ps3xploit.me site to jailbreak again.

Thank you all for the replies. My PS3 is back as before!!

I did downloaded the OFW from Sony site. Flashed and stuck in 98% as another post here i found with same problem. Nothing to loose so i boot in safe mode and formated from there. Process completed and asked to install the update again which did successfully and now is stock again.

Tomorrow with clear mind ill jailbreak again.

Thanks once again all the best.

@Evilnat, HIMSE WARNING, IF YOU HAVE THE CURRENT BETA 15 D-PEX DOES NOT CONVERT YOUR CONSOLES TO CEX THAT WILL BRIKE YOUR CONSOLES, MY 2 SLIM CONSOLES ARE BRICT AND MY DECHA00A. CHANGE WARNING TO ALL DOES NOT WITH THE CURRENT BETA 15 D-PEX
Loading DEX kernel with CEX TargetID in PS3 seems to have gone well, the ambulance beep no longer appears and the XMB can be accessed (before the patch this creates brick). It remains to be seen if it creates conflicts when installing a completely CEX PUP and more tests

CFW 4.91.2 Evilnat [BETA 17] released

Changelog
  • Patched DEX kernel to bypass ambulance beep brick (DEX kernel loaded with CEX TargetID)
  • Variants PEX and D-PEX only availables atm (Due to lack of time to test every variant)
All tests about to bypass "ambulance beep brick" while DEX kernel is loaded with CEX TargetID have been successfully completed and it is working fine, thanks to @Pusch3l for testing it! :love heart:

To patch it, you need to decrypt 4.84 DEX lv2_kernel.self and patch the following:

Offset: 0x283A7C
Original Value: 0xE86219787C0802A6
Replace with: 0x386000004E800020 (return 0)

This will replace the whole function to return 0 instead of making the PS3 beep and shut down, making it no longer brick when converting to CEX without changing the Kernel

This function is only present on DEX Kernels

So, we can use CEX IDPS on DEX?

Hello community,
I jailbroke my PS3 years ago, currently I'm on 4.91.2 beta 14 evilnat dex. I want to replace my hard drive from the original 80 to 500GB, how do I go about this?

Do you have any information?

oh and maybe if I need it, the firmware 4.91.2 beta 14 dex, is there an archive? it's out at mega
