4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

So that's why the clock & internet update fail? I need to set everything back to CEX? I thought a option to allow Debug was added to the 4.92.2 fixes patcher?
not really needed to convert back per se just spoof it as there is patches in the ps dev wiki submitted by @Evilnat
but how it works is it spoofs your DEX mode as CEX so that you are allowed to access PSN.

@Evilnat is there any way to patch the nas plugin to allow installation of pkgs with special characters?

I spent 2 hours trying to install my package, which kept failing at 60%, only to realize there was a (1) in the file name . It seems this issue only happens with packages larger than 1GB (just speculation), mine is 3.6GB.

Changelog
  • [CFW] Patched and enabled to update CFW via internet on CEX/DEX (depending vsh.self)
[/spoiler]

Does this mean new CFW versions post 4.92.2 will be able to be updated via internet or can we already do this with 4.90? Also when updating is it possible to preserve the coldboot image/controller charging image and gameboot images? Or must we apply them every time after a CFW update?

Thanks for the hardwork you do mate :)

The feature has been introduced on 4.92.2. Installing a firmware replaces all dev_flash files.

@Evilnat

When installing .2 from DFW and probably from HFW/OFW patched via BGToolset — the system gets stuck in recovery mode with an error code.
If you try to format through recovery, it results in a black screen. Even formatting the drive on a PC doesn't fix the issue. However, it can be resolved by creating a 30GB partition and then formatting it through the PS3.

The issue is most likely caused by the modded ps3swu.self and ps3swu2.self files.

The feature is great and there's no need to remove it, but maybe you could create a "base" PUP for those installing from DFW or after using BGToolset (this still needs testing, but I assume the same error occurs in that case as well).

@Evilnat @aldostools @LuanTeles Am I just missing this but why can I not find any information options that will show me exactly which firmware version I have installed. Ex: xxxxxx4.92 or xxxxx4.92.1 or xxxxx4.92.2

Every option I find only shows 4.92 not the .1,.2 etc...

I am trying to confirm that my system is on latest version of this fantastic evilnat cfw.

Oh, and in case I have not said recently, great job all involved in the PS3 scene. The PS3 is a fantastic underated little computer still showing its awesomeness by a very select few these days.

If your on the latest version you'll have the extra overclocking options under the xai plugin

Exactly, there doesn't seem to be any other way to see exactly which firmware revision they're running. Either way why is the firmware version not showing the .1 2.3 etc version you're currently running? I am sure there must be some reason for this as it seams a small info detail that's relevant anytime you want to know.

I maybe wrong but the incremental updates don't include any actual updates to the kernal.

Hello everyone, excuse my bad English I'm using a translator... The hard drive of my ps3 got damaged and I had to replace it but now when I'm installing the cfw gives me error 8002F1F0 at 48% of said installation even using the Cfw nobT, could you help me with that please, what can I do about it?

EDIT: My console has a damaged WiFi module because I can never count it over WiFi

Might be a bit of an obvious question, but you did have CFW installed when the HDD failure happened, right? When you reinstall the firmware after replacing the HDD, it will only accept CFW if it had CFW before you replaced it. If it had OFW or even HFW/HEN, it will not accept CFW, and you will need to install OFW or HFW first, then use bgtoolset to jailbreak and install CFW. Unfortunately, neither of those have noBT variants, so if that is indeed your case then unfortunately there's no fix other than replacing the Wi-Fi/BT module.

Hi, great work.
Of all the variations of this CFW, I'm surprised I haven't found one focused on the end user like me, with so many implemented features I'll never use or mess with, ruining my PS3. Before, I only came here to install Homebrew or just do the basics and that was it. We were happy...
I need something like that, please.

Curious what you mean by ruining your PS3. All the features are folded under 1 menu in the AM, making the experience fairly stock unless you mess with those settings.

Hey @Evilnat, there's a bug in the PS1 Emulator via webmanmod @aldostools. When pressing the PS button during gameplay and selecting options like smoother or fullscreen mode, the game switches to widescreen, misaligning in-game items (e.g., doors and item boxes). I tested RE1 and RE3, and both had the same issue. Any ideas?

Does anyone have any idea why Software Update does not work on PEX? I tried it because the changelog says I should be able to change 4.92 to other version CEX/DEX but when I search for updates I get 80029cc8. I don't even understand this error code as I don't find anything online related to it.
