PS3 80010017 error code help

I recently got a reballed cecha01 motherboard from ps3specialist with accompanying blu ray logic board and upon updating everything I keep getting the 80010017 error no matter what I do, at first I forgot about the logic board being married to the motherboard so when it didn't read anything I switched them back out and it detected movies. It detects the game and even shows what it is on the XMB but upon starting the game it shows a brief black screen (5 seconds or so) then the error message 80010017 pops up. I've tried every option in the safe mode menu multiple times. It plays blu ray movies and dvds just fine however. It came with fw 3.55 and now I wish i had left it alone to be able to try a logic board remarry easier. Since it plays blu ray movies I'm stuck on what to do next besides file for a warranty claim and wait, I ordered it on Sept. 27th and installed it over this past weekend. Does anyone have any tips I can try that I haven't already done? The only thing I haven't done is replace the laser drive but seeing as it reads blu ray movies I'm 99% sure its functioning correctly.

So far I've only tried C.O.D Advanced Warfare but I feel this issue will branch to all games. My hopes of getting a 60gb up and running have been slashed due to this headache and ultimate lack of info on this issue on ofw consoles online.

Alright, I've replaced the laser with a brand new full laser assembly and it is doing the exact same thing as before. It plays dvds and blu ray movies just fine but no ps3 games. Can anyone help me with this issue?

I didn't find anything that really could help you, but your best bet is rebuild your PS3 database.

Edit: You can also try to format your hdd, but backup everything first.

I'm currently trying another full format of the system and then I'll retry the game again. If that doesn't fix it its going back and I'm getting a warranty replacement. I just wish there were more in-depth resources for some of these error codes. I've tried rebuilding the database multiple times with no luck since that was the most recommended option.

Sounds like you bought a ps3 with an unmarried blueray drive.

Is the ps3 on cfw ?
If yes what version ?

Its on OFW 4.83. It came with 3.55 though which I regret updating from. Would an unmarried drive still allow media playback though? I've read that it wouldn't if it was indeed unmarried to the motherboard. If i use a different logic board it doesn't even spin up or try to read, it just accepts the disc and sits there until i eject it.

Ok, Now I'm having another issue after a full reformat and re-updating the game. I'm now getting error FFFFFFFF. I'm happy that this isn't the same error code as before but now I'm stumped yet again. The disc is free from scratches and any smudges but it still wont read, just said error code. Unfortunately its the only game I have to test at the moment. could the disc itself just be bad or does this still sound like an issue with the PS3?

***As a side note as I'm unsure of the relevance to this new error code I went into safe mode and did the file restore option before posting on here and when I selected that option it said something about my system files being corrupt and that the system would attempt to repair said corruption but upon doing so it took all of 5 seconds for it to go through the progress bar only pausing at 17% briefly, after that I still get the same code. Could the reoccurring corruption message be a sign of a bad HDD too and also be the cause of all my issues thus far?

Sorry about the long winded post I've never had to deal with this stubborn of a console before and information is certainly lacking in areas.

I'm getting the exact same behavior from mine. Blueray and DVD movies work well, but blueray games all behave in the exact same as you're describing. All attempts throw back the 80010017 and show up in the XMB, but when I update I get the FFFFFFFF.

I bought a new laser just in case, but did you ever find a cause and a fix?

No I never got to the bottom of this issue as I sent the motherboard back to ps3 specialist and fought with him for almost a month to get my money back after he refused to honor his warranty policy. He also wanted me to send in my own disc drive daughter board and I'm glad I didn't because I'd be out of a complete console currently if I had.

Sorry I couldn't help in this issue as I havent encountered it again since then.

Tldr: avoid ps3 specialist like the plague.

No problem, can you at least tell me if you tried installing a new laser? I may have to jailbreak and try remarrying a new logic board for the BR drive, if this doesn't work. New laser is currently in the mail somewhere however I'm skeptical it will solve the problem since it will read blueray movies, but I really want to get to the bottom of this issue. If you remember any of your attempts, please let me know because this issue we have is apparently not well documented online. Maybe it's rare?

I tried a new laser AND a while new laser carriage, and no luck unfortunately. Have you tried updating the game itself? Not sure if you have, that's solved a few of my laser read issues.

Unfortunately, I already have and I get a new error for every one, FFFFFFFF like you stated above. I tried 10 games, lol. Did you jailbreak and swap logic boards to remarry or no? I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Nobody else online has responded for any of my calls for information or help on this issue.
