Alright, so it all started a couple of days back when I decided to buy myself the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection on my HFW PS3. I downloaded, launched it, it patched itself and booted up... into a black screen. Like, the game itself was nothing but a black screen. I could open the menu and try to quit it, but it only resulted in the console rebooting itself.
Well that's weird.
After reinstalling it a couple of times I determined that it only happened with the patched version of the game. If I opted out of installing the patch, it booted up like normal.
Still, I was perplexed and decided to go into the recovery mode and restore the filesystem.
Boy was that a mistake.
It told me that formatting is the only option, which was devastating. I already had to go through formatting almost a year ago and the would was still fresh, but you know how it is, once it tells you that, you cannot opt out of it. So it destroys all of my data and here I am, once again with nothing but my accounts info (I've got multiple). But at least Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection now works with the patch, right?
Wrong, same issue.
But in addition to it, when I downloaded a bunch of games in the background, I realized they didn't show up in the XMB's "Game" tab. "Alright, I guess it's the remains of HEN in my system, just gotta reinstall HEN and it'll be fine." I go to ps3xploit, install HEN and it seems to work, only... a couple of days later I realize that the HEN bootup app is not there. And whenever I reset the system, I needed to reinstall HEN in order to enable it.
So I went to HFW Tools > Maintenance, removed HEN and then... well, the downloaded stuff still didn't show up in the XMB. I tried reinstalling HEN again and this time it actually worked just fine, then I removed it and it was all like it's supposed to be, all the stuff I've downloaded was in my XMB's "Game" tab, everything seemed pretty much as if I've just got the HFW installed.
Except Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection still refused to work with the patch.
Some background: I've got a silver non-CFW compatible slim PS3 with 4.90.1 HFW. One quirk of this particular console is that from the very day I've got it, it had a bad habit of hanging up during loading. It doesn't happen often, but it certainly happens more often than on my previous PS3. Around nine months ago I was experimenting with installing PS1 games onto it (I don't use webman and irisman for that, I prefer installing them so they'd show up in my XMB) and it resulted in some corrupt files showing up in my "Game" tab. I went into recovery, tried restoring the file system and it resulted in my first ever purge.
Oh and I do have a 7200 RPM 1000 GB Hitachi hard drive installed in the place of the stock one.
So, the question is, is my console in the process of croaking? Everything SEEMS normal now, but MKAK still doesn't launch with the patch. Is it the console itself or could it be the hard drive? Or maybe someone else had the same issue with this particular game (all the others seem to work just fine; PS3, PS1, PS2 games - they all just work).
