If so, then I can understand your frustration. It's likely you are not applying enough force. What I do is use sealant remover on the area I am cutting into. You can buy it from screwfix or a general hardware store.

Yes it is my first delid, never did before.

At least my PS3 still turns on and gets ylod for overheating so I didn't break anything.

I'm getting so frustrated that I've reached a point that I don't care if I broke my PS3. I've tried paint knifes, using wd40, using seal remover, used heat gun and nothing works!!! This feels like stone! Even I use brute force it is impossible to cut anything at all.

I give up!
I followed your video but still no success. It is impossible to cut. I probably already destroyed the board as well since one of the times that I was trying the board lifted off because how much strength I was applying.

Simply search the eraser mod, and you find it right here on this site. Naked Snake is the user who invented the mod, and it has helped a lot of people get better CPU temps from their console

Although this seems to work for you I don't agree with the method. I would either make your own tool or use a decent painters knife (not a cheap one). Heat and sealant remover can make this procedure easier, the motherboard either needs to be flat or on a motherboard brace to help prevent motherboard warping.

This Delid is safe, the video is not mine and in my case I left the PS3 board attached to a straight piece of wood. To make the process easier I use isopropyl alcohol.
This process is good because it does not scratch or cut the surface of the CELL.

It can and it will scratch, I have tried this method and it's not to be encouraged. My advise is to spend the money on the appropriate tools and materials required to do a delid more safely. After all, a fully backwards compatibility PS3 is worth some money, if you render it useless because your using cheap tools, surely that makes no sense

I've tried other methods, such as the blade, the feeler gauge and even the wire method used on smartphone displays. The only one that worked both times

I did it without any scratches or damage to the BGA spheres or mothrboard was the can method.

So that was my tip. It worked for me and I'll continue to do it, as did the person who made the video.
It's another option for anyone who decides to do it one day.

That's how i delid my consoles as well. Usually i use cans from monster energy drink

Needs patience but so far i didn't damage anything.
There are more chances to cut yourself than damage the chip.

Please don't use a beer can or any can for that matter to delid the CELL!! If you can cut yourself doing this, then you can cut the CELL, it's that simple. And when you do scratch the CELL your need to crack open a few more beers to drown your sorrows!

I'm not a novice in electronics. I've been involved in console maintenance since 1998 with the PS1 and the Sega Saturn. I know what I'm doing. I've been following the PS3 maintenance scene since 2010, when I bought my first used CECHE. However, electronic maintenance is not my source of income, but it used to be.

I repeat once again that there is no risk of scratching the surface of the CELL because the can is malleable. I remove the excess silicone that remains on the CELL with the can itself, without using chemicals that can damage the board. Depending on who is doing the DELID with the can, the board may suffer less stress and pressure compared to using a paint spatula.

And I repeat again that this is just one more tip among many in this topic. Whoever is going to do the DELID should choose the one that you think is safest. I tested it on a faulty board and saw that it worked. I was confident and have already do it on 2 CECHAs. I will soon test it on a third CECHA after correcting the SYSCON errors.

My only interest is to recommend a safe method for delidding. I'm not interested in winning the argument or having the last word. What are you suggesting seems dangerous as I wouldn't put anything razor sharp near the CELL. However, I'm going to try it on a junk board on camera. Now I have tried something like this before and it failed. So why don't you break it down for me. For example, how do I make the tool, i know it's from a can, but how do I make it? Once you have given me detailed instructions, I will attempt a delid using this method. I will then report back with the pros and cons of using this method. You must understand we have had too many people on this site, give what they call "bullet proof methods with zero risk," only for people to try it and damage their console. So, I will review this method and report back. If I'm wrong, I will take my hat off to you. Until then, i will comment again once you have given me detailed instructions, and I have put those instructions into action and reviewed this method.
