PS3 accidentally interrupted nand flash dump, now nothing works

Hi,

I have installed CFW Evilnat 4.90 PEX yesterday using bgtoolset. During patching the nand flash using bgtoolset returned partial dump 239mb in size, which I first should've been 256mb but then found some post on wiki that it should be 239mb and proceeded.

Today, on discord someone pointed out that if i use evilnat's dump flash utility, i should be able to get the whole 256mb. I tried to dump it, i got a notification dumping has started. I waited some time and there were no more information, so i wanted to check if it is being created, so opened up irisman. There a black screen welcomed me. I decided to reboot the console, when i hold the power button i got two beeps at first, then hold some more until the console is off. After a reboot, i checked the file using irisman again, there it was 170mb in size. So, it was in progress and interrupted it.

Anyways, I deleted the file and tried to dump it again. This time it finished quickly and when I checked the dump, it was 16mb in size. Tried several times with same result.

Now, the problem is after that point forward, whatever I want to open (multiman, wmm, irisman) I got black screen. When I try to mount a game using wmm i got error messages. Right now, I am unable to do anything with the console. It boots up and that's it. I can move around the xmb but cannot use anything.

So, here my question: what should I do at this point? This is my first rodeo with ps3, i bought it few days ago.

Edit:
My console is according to bgtoolset dump CECHCxx, i don't have a barcode at the back of the console, and I haven't opened it up.

Hi mate

Dump the NAND with Rebug Toolbox instead xai_plugin, it will dump with bootldr in the first 0x40000 bytes, or keep in a safe place the dump made with BGToolset

The dump flash option can't damage the PS3 because it does not modify it at any time, so the problem may be related on another side:
  1. Do you know if your BD controller is working?
  2. Do you have more active plugins right now?
  3. Do you have a SSD?
  4. Do you have the latest version of webMAN MOD?
Have you been able to load homebrew since you bought it? Maybe you need the noBD version. Try to reinstall the CFW from the recovery menu using the last option at the bottom

Remember that if you use any option of xai_plugin it is better to wait for the final message of whether it has been completed or has given an error before doing anything else, atm it is not dumping the complete NAND, your best option is using Rebug Toolbox dump flash option

That is exactly what i was thinking. Dumping should just be a read to the flash. Thank you for clearing that out.

Regarding your questions:
  1. I can play ps3 games which is the only ones I have. However, I think there might be some problem with it. After I posted here, I wanted to check if I can play from disk, and inserted one. The game was working fine, and I tried to use irisman again and it worked. So, I don't know what is wrong but seems like bd drive is the issue.
  2. No, I don not.
  3. I had an 1 tb SSHD laying around, so i swapped it with the original 60gb hdd. I played games on it and everything was fine. After this problem I reverted back to its original hdd. I don't if I should just keep the hdd.
  4. Yes I have.

Yes, I was able to load, install and use homebrew apps, I even played modded ps2 games. Maybe I need a noBD version, but after installing I doubt I can still play games with disks.

I will keep this in mind. I will just wait patiently. Can you please direct me to the suggested Rebug Toolbox version? I have tried the version from brewology "rebug toolbox 4.89". I get a warning on start "Your system is not running on compatible REBUG COBRA configuration!". Also, I couldn't find any option to dump flash afterwards. just "dump eid root key" has the keyword dump

Love my BC systems but owning a NOR flash system is so much easier. It's easy to softbrick a NAND system and much harder to fix as a flasher is needed 99% of the time. The reason I bring this up is just on the side of caution. A NOR flash system if it bricks just format the HDD and start over. Not the case with a NAND system like you have. Not quite so easy to use a NAND flasher either. The teensy requires a pretty good hand. Once you have the NAND dump make a backup of your eID root key, enable QA flagging and System Update Debug in the options. Hope you get it sorted and enjoy your system. Might want your IDPS & PSID but never share those and if you have any other Sony system be careful as a ban on PS3 not only bans the system but the user account tied to it as well. Lost a ton of PS4, PSP & Vita games with my PS3 titles when I got banned. This was before No-PSN apps as I only used it to stream & buy games.

I have a PS5, and i just wanted to have complete ps library playable. That's why i purchased a bc ps3, so that i can play ps1, ps2 and ps3 games as well. There are also some ps2 game mods i wanted to try. I know that this bc models have temp problems, so i wanted address that using fan control etc. At the end, best option i found was evilnat cfw 4.90. I am not familiar with nand or nor flash chips, but i hope it will not softbrick on its own. All i will do is play some games.

If i will need a hardware flasher, then i should have the complete dump 256mb i guess. As far as i know those flasher writes the whole flash. Before installing cfw, I dumped flash using bgtoolset, and its size is 239mb. Afterwards, I have used Rebug Toolbox to extract flash, interface reported 239mb but when i checked the dump it is indeed 256mb, and it does pass the checker tool. I hope this is all i need. Does flash patcher modifies bootloader part in the first 0x40000 bytes? If not, should i just copy those bytes from the rebug dump and merge with he bgoolset's dump?

Also, there are tsop clips iirc, for what process would i need a good hand exactly? Just curious

What are QA flagging and System Update Debug for?

As I have mentioned in my previous post, inserting a ps3 game disk resolved the issue for now. I don't know the specifics of what happened. I would like to troubleshoot, if someone can help me through it.

I definitely wouldn't want to get banned. I saw in the changelog of 4.90.2 beta 8, "toggle ofw mode on boot". I see you are using this versions of the cfw in your signature. Do you use it? Would you consider it safe?

What are no-psn apps? Could you give me more info?

that sounds like the Bluray Drive gone caput. try installing nobd cfw then try to open the apps, and check if you still have black screen
